Detroit takes those bad contracts without getting anything of value in return?

Dzingle has only a year left I'll swap ya Erne for him. I'll just sell him at the deadline. Gardiner just too long a deal. Keep a million and maybe we'll talk

As a Detroit fan I can say Erne's biggest contribution to the Wings was the Bert - Ehn - Erne line it got a laugh but awful on the ice. Now McIlrath is awful and he has trouble keeping up in the AHL. The fact that he played 16 games for Detroit because of injuries and it shows just how bad things were in Detroit this season. Dzingel is basically a cap dump but I wouldn't mind Gardiner coming to Detroit for the remainder of his contract but there is no way I'd give up a 2nd for him. I think Gardiner for Evgeny Svechnikov is about as far as I'd go to get him. I also think Evgeny needs a change of scenery and I think Carolina is his best chance to succeed. He got screwed over by Holland and then he blows out his knee but he is always smiling and he is always positive. He is the kind of player you want to see succeed no matter what team he plays for.

Just curious to why you say Holland screwed over Svechnikov? I know nothing of the situation

Yeah, hell no on the Canes side. Gardiner, when he's on, is really excellent. His game was trending up starting in January, and he's no cap dump material. As for Dzingel, the season resumption is key in order to figure out if he's willing to take his defensive awareness up to the level necessary for Brindy to play him in the top 6.

Big no for Carolina. Gardiner is a HELL of a player when he's going. With Hamilton still not at 100%, it's vital to keep him around for the foreseeable future. With Dzingel, again no. Dzingel went cold, but he was still among the top 6 Carolina forwards in scoring. That is not enough of a return for Carolina

Unless you have been The Free Press or The Detroit News for several years you probably haven't heard anything about it. A GM slighting a prospect isn't exactly national news material. A few years back Svechnikov had a great camp and preseason he even had 2 goals in his last pre season game. Then we don't see him again until the final 2 games of the season. Now career AHL players like Callahan(4), Street(6) and Lorito(2) saw as much or more time than Svechnikov. It was also the season Sheahan didn't score until the final game of the season.

Dzingel and Gardiner are worth way more than what you are getting back from DET. Gardiner is a 2nd pair caliber D-man on any team in the league. Hell he would be a #2 on DET. He alone is worth a 2nd and a prospect. Dzingel has not meshed in Carolina's system but he still has value. He would be on the 2nd line in DET. Even though he only has a year left, he would fetch more than that at the 20-21 deadline. I personally think either player would be a welcome addition to DET's roster considering the the trash they put on the ice nightly. Erne and McIllrath are both AAAA caliber players. Neither would get playing time outside of DET. This trade would start with a 2nd and Svechnikov and DET can add from there.
