Just a base deal. Could be other smaller pieces added and could be Holl over Liljegren if you want but who says no?

Just a thought I’ve had but I could be way off here hence the title.

This would be a very smart move for Toronto imo.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, I think it's a no from NSH. With that contract, Ellis is too important to move. Not that the offer itself is bad, it just needs to be an overpayment to make them consider it.

Probably time to put down the bottle, Nashville would never consider this

Why not? They can’t score and they’ll still have a big 3 on D with Fabbro maturing.

I wasn’t worried about figuring if it should be Spezza or Gaut or whoever. More about the basis of the trade.

That was my thinking too but a 90 point winger might be enticing to a team that can’t score. I also looked at them still having a pretty good trio at least on the backend with Josi Ekholm and then Fabbro as he matures.

Arvidsson, Forsberg, Duchene could all score a lot but the over-defensive system is holding them back

Nashville likely says no. Marner is great but if I'm a GM I'd rather have Ellis and RV.

I’d take Ellis too. Arv has been inconsistent lately. And marner’s cap hit is big. But its just an idea.

Arvidsson and Forsberg were playing for the same coach as they’ve regressed. That’s a tough excuse for them.

I mean it's not a terrible offer, but from a mostly neutral perspective who also happens to love Marner, I take Ellis and RV.

Because Ellis is on a great contract and is a Norris caliber defenseman and Arvidsson is on a fantastic contract while being a 35-40 goal scoring, 65-70 point, 2-way forward if he can stay healthy.

Arvidsson’s career high on points is 61. This year in 1 less game than last season he had half the goals and half the points. Ellis also has injury issues too. A durable 90 point winger and a potential top4 RD to play along side and Ekholm or Josi. They’d be fine defensively. It’s just a matter of if you think Marner pushes your fwds over the top.

It's tough. Depends on how Arvidsson can perform. He was pretty bad this season but in previous seasons was fantastic. Tough decision

Trading a 23 y/o 90+ point first line winger for a 30 y/o defenseman is not a good idea... Ever.

The package is solid. However, I think this may leave Nashville thinner in the blueline than they have been since the Legwand days. Fabbro is gonna be good, but he isn't there yet. And not sure Liligren is ready to step in quite yet for a team that should be contending.
Josi, Ekholm, Fabbro and....... that's the issue.

Why does Nashville consider? Cuz they should have been one of the best in the West and they crapped the bed in epic proportions. Poile has been bold before, and this kind of a shake up may send a message.

Marner would be an excellent addition to spark offense, but I see the cost for Nashville being too steep.

While I see you’re point about NSH’s D but other teams have won the cup with just 3. Liljegren would become the 4th eventually.

Overall that’s how I saw it too but I thought it was at least an interesting idea with NSH needing scoring bad and TOR needing a top pair RD.

It is certainly is. Frankly I think a line of Forsberg-Johanson-Marner would be bith dynamic and dominating for the Preds.

I am a proponent of bringing in a vet RD to play with Reilly. If it makes you feel better, I have been yelled at for looking at Hjarmalsson, Demers and Braun. Realistically, the Leafs need a 1 or 2 year placeholder there. Liligren is coming.

But the construct of this deal is good. The chemistry of the teams involved maybe another question. But hey, I like outside the box and a little bold lol

I wonder if Pierre LaCroix said that when he dealt a 27 year old Rolston for a soon to be 40 year old Ray Bourque? (In a massive package deal that Boston squandered).

Did you see the smile on Bourque's face when Sakic handed him the Cup?

No risk, no reward bro.

If I'm the Leafs I don't do this, sure Marner's contract is huge but the line of him, Matthews and Hyman is dominant and Liljegren is half a season (hopefully) to a season away from playing in this top 4. Leafs could play him with the big club now and he'd be servicable but they want him to be elite which he will be

27 year old for Ray Bourque is a little bit different then Marner and Arvidsson swap on fwd
