RFAs are figuring out they have leverage, whether it be a limited amount of years of control, or arbitration. You will overpay for 4 years and shouldn't want to walk him right to UFA

I don't think you'll find a Bruins fan who defines him as an "elite scorer" but out of curiosity, what do you consider an elite scorer?

If you look at Johnsson and Kapanen contract in Toronto i think you have to look at that range. Probably a little bit more then johnsson a would say 4 millions would be fair enough. Can’t see him getting over that amount.

One season of 27 goals doesn't make him an elite goal scorer.

Give him 3.75 or so for 2 years and if he gets more consistent then hit him for 5 years in the next contract

This probably is not too far off, I'd say 4 million is more accurate.

for 4 years, $4 million is probably fair. Now this is a very crude way to look at it, but Johnsson takes up 4.17% of Toronto's cap space. Over the last 3 seasons DeBrusk comes in at 0.59 P/GP with Johnsson coming in at 0.54 P/GP. So call it a 10% bump production wise per game. so 1.10*4.17% would bring it out to at $4.59 CH% and on $81.5 million that gives him a $3.74 cap hit. Add in DeBrusk being a better goal scorer based on P/GP and $4 million isn't unreasonable.

Debrusk is a scoring winger, you are wrong, he is right. It is a VERY even deal

quoting: ON3M4N▾

Per Hockey-Reference:

Since 2017-2018 among all LWer's (min 80gp)
Goals: 17th
G/GP: 22nd

Since 2017-2018 among all winger's (min 80gp)
Goals: 42nd
G/GP: 38th

If you don't think DeBrusk is a scoring winger, please define what the criteria is for a "scoring winger" in your opinion.

Quoting: bsilk18
Coyle and Carlo are low,
Debrusk is medium elite
Marchy low
Chara probably a bit high

Good job with the prospects! and everyone else

OVERALL: good job!

I think it does, but honestly, I think more teams should consider doing that. Or at the very least not immediately put it out of the question. A term that brings an RFA straight to UFA is the most beneficial term for a player. If a team is in a situation where they are tight to the cap, they could probably cut significant $$$ off the players AAV by offering them such a deal. A team like Tampa comes to mind here.

League minimum. That isn’t a joke, it’s a dead serious answer. There isn’t even a .001% chance the bruins even discuss a 4 year deal with him because it takes him directly to UFA without buying out any UFA years. This is not a thing in the NHL. It does not happen. So I’m not even remotely joking when i say that if the debrusk camp came to don sweeney and said, “we’re only interested in a 4 year deal!” Sweeney would probably say, “fine, league min.” A deal that takes a player directly to UFA coming off their ELC is just not a concept in the NHL.

1-3 years is legit, 5-8 is legit. Let’s talk about that.

I think he gets 3 years at 4 million per if the cap stays the same.

The team would be happier to just let the player sign a 1 year deal, go to arb the next year, and then trade their RFA rights after getting six years out of the player.

Cmon. 4 years just isn’t even on teh table. 3 years 4 million sounds very fair.

I certainly don’t think he is an elite scorer, but it is worth noting that he played 66 games in that season I believe. 9th in the league amongst left wingers in goals/60.

In his first two years he scored like a bat out of hell down the stretch to close the season. Certainly agree that he isn’t an elite goal scorer, and I can’t imagine anyone saying that, but he’s shown flashes of it.
