Is this a realistic offseason for the Hawks

Description
Lot of x-factors going into this offseason. Potentially a new GM, compliance buyouts. If Shaw isn't kept on LTIR there's even less money to re-sign Strome, Kubalik, Crawford, Caggiula, maybe Koekkoek. There's an obvious need to address defense, but if Stan is still at the helm, I hope he'd be conservative in the trade market. That said, what does/can this team do to improve? Hope the young stars take strides in their development? Overpay for a UFA like Hoffman or Hall? Because there's a desire from my end to not do anything stupid, but roll out this team again and once again they're in the basement of the central. What would y'all do as new GM of the Hawks?

They're probably going to buyout Maatta and Smith. A trade that's been posted frequently on here is Strome for Brodin straight up, and I think that would be a major help in both the short term and long term. Next year will probably be another down year, hopefully they can get another top 10 pick and then gear up to make the playoffs in 2022.

I understand the Smith buyout, but haven't understood the Maatta hate. He was actually pretty solid when paired with Koekkoek, albeit playing third line minutes. Bringing in Brodin would obviously change that and Maatta doesn't have a cheap buyout option.

The Maatta option is a last resort option. He should have trade value, but let's pretend for a second he didn't (which is incorrect) he has a VERY team friendly buyout that can save $3.5M a year.

If next year is a down year (I think it will be), Hawks should avoid buyouts at all costs so those cap hits don't follow for when they are making a push. Maatta has some value, and hawks should be capable of eating Smith's last year.

Depends on the contracts of Kubalik/Strome/Crawford and health status of Shaw/De Haan/Seabrook. I think they may be able to eat Smith's contract, but they might not be able to if all three guys come back from injury and they sign all three of the FAs to fair contracts.

I think if Shaw comes back then one of him or Caggiula gets traded. We dont two concussion risks on this team, only one

I would like there to be an obvious sign or even an admission that the team is going to suck this year by not making short-sighted trades and UFA signings and prepare for '21-22. I think the Seabrook contract is the only one you buyout. 6.785 on the books for 4 years or 2.292 for 8.

If Seabrook and Shaw are back, Caggiula's rights are getting traded. No room for him if they plan on Kubalik and Strome being a part of the future.

So do I understand correctly that you are buying Seabrook out?

Seabrooks contract is buy out proof. Hawks barely save anything on a buy out according to the buy out calculator on here.

Compliance buyouts granted previously were 2/3rd the contract paid out over 2x the length of time. So 4.5mil saved for 4 years, 2.292mil on the books for 8 years. I'd do that.

Didn't realize you were talking about a CBO. In that case yeah I agree
