I originally didn’t have the Van, Fla or Col trades but I got bored. Team still works cap wise either way.

Not great value for Ottawa. Don't see them taking that deal.

I hope you're joking. That's a horrible trade for the oilers.

Edmonton would pay Russell’s bonus so he’s only owed 1.5M real money. Helps them get to the cap floor without actually spending 62M. And they get someone who can still play and let the younger guys get another year to develop properly. But like I said in the description picks are not really that important can always be swapped or whatever. Just don’t see Ottawa taking him for a late round pick just to have the cap hit.

Ottawa would want something to take him. And next years draft is supposed to be a weak draft. Helps Edmonton more than Ottawa imo but if Ottawa would just take him then sure go for it.

Idk Edmonton is probably a playoff team, that's probably a late first, and I have a hard time seeing how the Sharks don't suck next year with Jones still in net. A 2nd and 3rd to move up a handful of spots next year isn't great value.

Also I cannot stress enough how much I don't want Krus Russell in Ottawa. Would rather just re-sign Borowiecki.

Melnyk is cheap and Borowiecki would probably cost more than the 1.5M Russell will cost. And he doesn’t help them get closer to the cap floor at a lower cost.

Why do you get a 2nd along with Palat??? If Russell gets a 4th Palat should get a 2nd along with a really good prospect...

To move his contract to resign Cernak and Cirelli. He’s also fallen on the depth in Tampa to a 3rd line role. 5.3M is pretty expensive to pay for a 3rd liner. The pick would probably be a conditional pick I just don’t bother with that anymore cause people on here don’t read anyways.

Once his bonus is paid, his salary is only 1.5 million. That's not much for a dynamic shot blocking defense first defenseman. And it's only for one year.

I agree. Melnyk is cheap and having 4M towards the cap and only having to pay 1.5M would be exactly what he’s looking for but at the same time he has some leverage against Edmonton. We’re in a win now mode and need cap to make it possible. It’s possible but I’m just looking at it from an Ottawa perspective instead of an Oilers fan view and just wanting to move his contract.

Wouldn't the same be said for Russell?? He's a 3rd line dman. And Chiasson?? You couldn't under pay Bear, sign Ennis and trade Anthasiou for a better player without going over the cap...

The Colorado, Vancouver and Florida deals don’t need to be made I just got bored and was messing around. If you would like I can make another one and show you.

You're spot on, Tampa won't be trading Palat anyway, but if they did, they won't be adding a 2nd to him for that kind of return. It would be a 2nd+decent prospect or additional pick for him. He's a top 6 very solid 2 way player who also has been pretty good in the playoffs. If he is asked and does waive, Tampa won't be adding to him unless the return is amazing.

The 2nd would be conditional. And while yes he’s a solid top 6 forward he’s fallen in the depth chart in Tampa to a 3rd line role. 5.3M is a ver expensive 3rd liner especially when you’re trying to resign Cirelli and Cernak with just under 8M in cap this offseason. Oh and they got Coleman at the TDL who can play the same role for a third of the cost.

Palat is rarely a 3rd liner in Tampa. He has been arguably the most improved player from last year to this year and with his defensive abilities added, he is more valuable to Tampa than Puljujarvj would likely ever be. Coleman was brought in to help replace one of Killorn/Johnson/Gourde(likely Killorn) who will be moved this off season. Of the 4 guys Tampa has making in the ~4.5-5 range, Palat seems the least likely to be traded.
