If Thornton leaves San Jose, it’s to go to a legit contender. That’s not toronto

Is it even? I didn’t really think that was up for debate anymore. They’re a talented, up and down team that haven’t figured it out yet. Maybe win a playoff round, just once. Or finish in the top three of the division.

heres the thing, leafs are washington 2.0. Washington in the playoffs was the same with the leafs except they had a longer history of getting beat by the penguins. Every year it was ok here are the penguins great, lose and repeat. Yet in 2018 what happened, they beat the penguins, went to the finals and won the cup. But how many years did it take, how many talented players did they have to sign. Toronto since 2016 has been knocked out r1 3 times all in game 7. Never got swept once. Like washington leafs just need to acquire a few more pieces and change their playstyle which under keefe should be a no brainer.

They could at least win a round, and finish top two in their division

Because they can’t win a playoff round, and also can’t get home ice in the playoffs.

Also, who’s this we and you that you’re talking about? Neither of us play for these teams.

Why do u need home ice advantage? And they would’ve beaten Bruins both times if Kadri never got suspended!! And yes it is WE cuz I’m a die hard fan, the point u made prove how big of an idiot u are Man U don’t got a clue

The home ice advantage was to show that over the course of a season, they are incapable of winning enough games to finish in the top 2 in their division...which is something that most contenders can do.

Sure, teams have won the cup without having a great regular season record, so i would cut the leafs some slack, if they had won a playoff series in the last decade and a half. Kinda tough to call yourself a contender when the team isn’t anything special in the regular season, and can’t win a playoff series. Really tough actually.

Another clueless Bruins fan, Leafs are so young and their best players are learning how to win. Their a bad team cause the 2 best teams in the division finish 1-2 in the league? Guess a team that doesn't win the President's Trophy can't win a cup... Even though the best teams in the regular season never win the cup, ask tampa. Enjoy the next 2 seasons before the Bruins aren't contenders anymore and the Leafs compete for the cup for the next 10 years

Crazy to get rid of Leafs best RHD Holl for nothing. Green in the NHL still? All that term for Brodie? Please stop the Thornton to Leafs nonsense. If he plays for minimum it will be for San Jose.

I didn’t say they were a bad team. I wouldn’t consider them a cup contender. I think it’s naive to consider them contenders, and deep down, you do too. The leafs are so flawed that around the deadline it seemed 50/50 if they were going to make the playoffs.

Now, any team can sneak in and get hot. The kings proved that. But at this point, calling them contenders is just a bit much. Win a round. Have a good season. Then we can talk about this again.

Last 2 seasons the Leafs had good years and finished top 10ish in the league. This year after Babcock was fired they were on over 100 point pace and we had the 3rd most games lost to injuries, pretty much all to our blue line. Not using injuries as an excuse but our blueline was thin this year as we're waiting for younger guys to make the jump so having Rielly, Dermott and Muzzin miss a bunch of games didn't help. Leafs may not be the best team but they're contenders in the fact that they could win the cup, not favourites but far from impossible
