I traded Murray to Vegas and I think I gave him the same exact contract. Was politely notified that my numbers were not close. After a down year where he lost his starting job and without an increase in salary cap, I think $4.5 isn’t bad for him. A team would have to be a little crazy or foolishly optimistic to commit more to him without seeing improvement.

I honestly believe the value is about correct but I don't see it as the right timing for the Sens to pick up a proven goalie. I think their plan is bottom out for one more year before starting to add to the roster to start winning (which I think is a good plan). In that same breath I think the Sens will be sending their draft picks back to junior (if it is Laf) after a 9 game run with the team to start the season. The roster will be much younger but it will be from guys graduating from Belleville (Norris, Brown, Balcers and maybe Formenton). I think Tierney gets a one year contract and gets flipped at the TDL or moved before the season to a team that needs C depth (WPG to Buf).

I think they wait 1 more year before having a full roster. Ottawa will keep accumulating assets and trading them at the deadline again in 2021. Have a solid 2021 draft, another top 5 pick and then in 2021-2022 bring everyone up

I heard 2021 is going to be a very weak draft. Selling assets for picks might not be worth it in the end but idk

How about Tierney to Edmonton for AA, a third and pujujarvi?

I think the top 10-15 is pretty strong next year.

I don't think OTT has a need for AA but what they were able to do to Duclair they could find another diamond in the rough. I think OTT would be silly not to take this offer. I bet you could even include Russel post SB to rid yourself of more cap space if you wanted in this deal and take out your third.

What do you think?

Unless Ottawa is getting an absolute steal of a price, I'm not a fan of trading for Murray. Sens have a strong goalie pipeline, and as a rebuilding team they have the luxury of time. The have a solid tandem in the NHL that I would be comfortable with going forward for the next few years, and I'm confident that between Hogberg, Daccord, Søgaard, or Gustavsson, they have the goalie of the future. I think a team that is in win now mode, who is looking for a goalie would make more sense.

As for the rest of the team, I'm really not a fan of bringing Scott Sabourin back. He was a good guy to have in the room, but when he was in the lineup the sens could not use their 4th line. It was one of the biggest problems with I had with DJ Smith's deployment. The top 9 isn't deep enough to justify playing the 4th line 7 minutes a night. Also Drake Batherson and Nick Paul are both ahead of Hawryluk.

As for the Defense, I'm not a fan of Ottawa drafting Drysdale over say Raymond, Rossi or Holtz. Drysdale isn't playing in the NHL for at least 1-2 years, and he's even farther away from being top 4. Also Mike Reilly playing at all over Wolanin makes me want to puke.
