3 way with Avalanche and Oilers

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 15, 2020
Published: May 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming no CBOs will happen in this scenario and cap will remain at 81.5 million for next 3 seasons.

Looking for input on the 3 way trade, how is value?
Add? Subtract? Good as is?

Would really appreciate input.

Here is the trade breakdown :

To Oilers =
Kerfoot
Rights to Bracco
Rights to Holmberg
2021 2nd rounder

To Avalanche =
Rights to Athanasiou
Johnsson
Conditional 3rd rounder

To Leafs =
Rights to Zadorov
Rights Jost
Rights Puljujarvi

Reasons :
Oilers feel AA is not good fit and move for Kerfoot plus
Avalanche has deth on defence and add FW depth using it, Jost gets bumped out of the organization due to their bottom 6 FW depth.
Leafs add a quality physical D man but is LD and hope that Jost can play fundamentally more sound defensively.
Pool party remains in Europe another year.

Dermott signs 1 year show me deal similar to Pittsburgh's Petterrsson.

Zadorov would certainly bring a new element to the back end. But he is a LH Dman isn't he?

Yes he is LD, I stated this above.
Wont be first time nor the last time a LD plays on the right.

I was thinking of removing Holmberg from trade adding Malgin instead and signing Clifford to 3 years at 1 million AAV with performance bonuses.

I'm not convinced Jost will be effective with the Leafs and yes I know Zadarov can play his off side...but I'm not a fan of that either.

Can only give performance bonuses on ELC or 35+ contracts.

The value isn't bad but I'd rather get someone better defensively than Athanasiou and Johnsson is coming off of a big knee injury that required surgery so I don't think anyone would trade for him until he gets back on the ice and shows he is still the same player. From the Avs perspective I would be interested in a Zadorov-Kapanen swap though

"Oilers feel AA is not good fit"

This makes no sense. Holland just traded for him! Don't forget Holland drafted him and was his GM for his 5 pro seasons. He isn't going to suddenly - after just 9 games - decide this isn't the player he wants and throw him away for the first weak offer he gets.

I feel AA will get more money than Kerfoot so that is reason too.
Holland wouldnt be the first GM to move on from a player, certainly not the last either.

Cap wise the move for Jost is the smart play.
Might even end up being an even cheaper option, bottom line is... shift a little more spending to D from FWs.

I think the notion of of who is left handed and right handed needs to change and instead the topic needs to be, is this defenceman is good defensive player.

Zadorov fits the bill.
oneX liked this.

There is no reason, your whole basis doesn't make a lick of sense. Over the past 8 years Holland drafted the player, Holland signed the player, Holland developed the player, Holland re-signed the player, Holland traded for the player. Holland isn't suddenly going to decide he doesn't like the player. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

I could see the Avs interested in one of the forwards, not both. They already have a glut in the bottom 6 and emerging prospects in Kaut and Bowers, and realistically only have 1 spot open in the top 6.

Sure you can have your own opinion. We posters are here to judge the validity of your opinion though, and yours fails.
