I misread it as tanev is better than peitrangelo. Peter Angelo is too expensive, and is definitely gonna be resigned anyway.

TML had multiple players on the IR this past year; it was brutal.
Soooo, just what they need is a saviour in "Glass-Joe" Tanev; next to Sami Salo the most injury prone old man in hawkey hawkey!

Ya could see that, term is the issue with Tanev. Tanev is affordable without moving a major piece as well. Leafs don't need anymore big contracts at market value.

Def not going to resign, they threw their money at Faulk already for some reason.

I mean how fricking long are they gonna wait for Liljegren. For 3 years everyone in Toronto have been screaming for them to get a right handed defenseman with term but every time Liljegren gets brought up as a possible trade piece they act like he's gonna be Cale Makar in 2 years so they don't need to trade for anyone. They honestly deserve this situation they're in

no good defense man is signing for 4 years. None. That conversation is over.
On the plus side, defense men decline slower than forwards.

A lot of scouts think Lilgegren tops out as a 5-6D. People just going off CHEL think he's going to be elite.

If they want to add a major game changing RD, they have to move a major offensive piece, no way around that.

Ok

I mean, they have Parayko at 5.5 and Faulk at 6.5...…
How many top four RD does a cap team wanna pay that kind of money for..?

Expect Tanev to get the same (or similar) contract as Dillon gets. They are carbon copies, just play on the opposite D side. This contract is accurate; Muzzin is not the right comparable here.

IDK, people are so weirdly overly high on Tanev and always have been.

…... Doesn't matter anyway because he is going to take a deal to play with his brother in Pittsburgh obvi...

It really depends on what the injuries are doesn't it?
He did play 69 games last year.
In some sense it might be appealing. At least if he starts to suck you claim he's hurt and no one will argue about it. They will just say, he's always been hurt and to LTIR he goes. No real cap cost.

it's what you get with a living punching bag. nobody blocks shots quite like him. People claim that he isn't a true defensive defenseman, but he plays his own style of it, which is a rare one - block everything and anything. He's fearless for that, but of course it comes with the injury problems.

Good thing is that you know what you are getting with him.

I as a canucks fan would not want to pay him any more than this contract here to bring him back. He's worth about 4.5M +/- .25M for 3-5 years

it is what it is. It's probably his last contract right. I mean if it was you, what kind of term would you want. I know my number starts and ends with 7.
And if you can actually play, you probably get it as a defense man because the need is greater than the demand.
Every year teams are looking for defense. It's just not like winger where they are a dime a dozen and you can find some guys to fill in. Tanev is a legit 2nd pairing. There just aren't that many available.

This year there are more UFA defense than usual. There's a lot of them to go around, so this year I actually think there will be the reverse affect of many of the mid range defensemen values dropping.

What I do know, is this is NOT the guy you give 7M. A shot blocking magnet whose career could be ruined by one injury is not what you give term to.

4 years ideal, but +/- 1 year would do. My offer to keep him on the canucks would be his exact same contract (4.65M) x 4 years. I'd budge up to 4.85. After that he can try elsewhere

This is exactly why I would stay away from Tanev. What good is Tanev on the injury list? The answer is: zero.

Even with this 21 man roster and no cap you haven't signed Dermot. So going by this post, the Leafs could have not traded Kerfoot kept. Dermot had a 22 man roster and more cap.
Or traded Kerfoot, signed Dermot and had over 2m for another player.
You really want Marincin as your 7th Dman, and would really be playing big minute cause injuries happen. And who is the the "8th" Man? All that just to sign a guy because he is right handed.
