what the leafs could look like with both Taylor hall and Alex Pietrangelo as a leaf. when I say signing rights its for the rights to offer the 8th year in the contract this is on the crazy side vs the calm or reliable.

    Signing rights doesn't guaranteeing signing the player, so the Blues are grateful you gave them Marner.

    I think considering they get Marner for free in this scenario (and somehow even get some picks on top) they probably take it and figure the rest out after.

    Dubas can't denial the urge to make a big splash every summer (from Kessel trade, J.T. signing and Kadri-Barrie swap) so I suspect he may try to take advantage of Tbay's cap hell and target Cernak.

    That's not getting you a top 5 pick from Ottawa.

    You will never get back fair value for marner due to his contract

    Yes, littlejerryseinfeld, Marner is pretty much guarenteed to score 100 points at one point in his career, he scored 94 at 21/22(I always forget how old he is). I do agree with you that this trade is so,so bad. Marner plus some picks for a shot at pietro. very bad.

    Not guaranteeing 100 points, but considering he won't peak for another 3-4 years it's likely. Take Patrick Kane for example, someone I consider to have a similar play style. At Marner's age he only 66 points in a full season, and we all know where he is now. Or take Kucherov, another pure playmaker. At Marner's age he was barely over a ppg, then he went and had back to back 100+ point seasons, or Johnny Hockey who was again only a ppg.

    People don't realize that Marner how extraordinary Marner is to be that good that young.

    Why would you pay a 22 year old future 100 point scorer for an aging defensemen? Trading for Pietrangelo's rights does not guarantee he will sign with the Leafs. So essentially, you are giving up Marner and picks for nothing. Also, if the Blues are struggling to sign Pietrangelo to a $9 million dollar contract, what makes you think they can take Marner's $10.8 million dollar contract?

    Ya, you are absolutely right. I would trade the picks for Pietro's rights, but no more.
