Even if all of the semantics of this trade were to go through...what makes you think this would put you into cup contention? Because if you're wrong about this fixing the Sabres, you have only $158,333 to help you...

Makes more sense from a Leafs standpoint but I still think this would be a no from them. Tavares is okay going into a 2C role but I don't see Eichel wanting to do that. This trade is one of the rare ones that actually make both teams worse off, IMO of course.
