That pretty much sums it up. Ottawa lose the best two assets in the trade so they wouldn't touch this.

Slightly higher point production from a worse team. Better shot share % froma worse shot share team.

Just commit long term to a very moderate contract 8x8 for a player who had every ounce of leverage, hes loyal and a team player.

He also got 52% Defensive zone starts compared to Zachs 59% Offensive zone starts.

This is not a knock on Werenski at all, I ****ing love the guy, but I would prefer Hotsam Batcho

In win shares, which is a stat that measures someone's total wins affected in the last 3years for defenders under 25 he was top 3... Werenski was not Chabot

Neither team is touching this...

SJS 1st>> Chabot/Werenski> Bjorkstrand>> Texier> White>>>>>>>>> Wennberg.

Columbus like what they have and Ottawa wants the picks and prospect vs roster players.

And by neither you mean Ottawa. Texier is not a more valuable asset than White right now. And Bjorkstrand and White are pretty even. Most people value centres more. I get it, White didn't produce. But no one really did on Ottawa. Plus the 3rd overall, then Wennberg, who no one wants? No Chance. And I forgot Connor Brown was even in this trade. This is horrible for Ottawa. They downgrade in every asset.

Chabot > Werenski - Chabot played the most minutes as a Dman always against the best players in defensive roles
Brown > Bjorkstrand - Better 2 way player and production
White > Texier - hard to evaluate because Texier is just getting his feet wet
SJ 1st > bjorkstrand, texier, wennberg combined.

Honestly Chabot and Werenski are very similar players and on the other team would run the same role as the current player.

Brown vs Bjorkstrand- point wise yes he did have better years but that was in Toronto when he was on a line with Matthews or Tavares. Bjorkstrand is surprisingly underrated and was Columbus best forward last year. PLD has the most points but Bjorkstrand is better defensively and created more chances.

White and Texier are close to the same. I’d tend to give more value to the guy on the ELC, but both can play center and both are top 6 forwards, White is slightly better but Texier is younger and was a rookie last year.

SJS 1st is by far the best thing in the trade and tbh it’s probably worth more then everything else combined as it’s a good shot at Laf or Stutzle, both will be better then anything else in this trade.

Ottawa- They want the draft picks to rebuild and Chabot seems to like it there and want to stay, you don’t trade a guy who can easily be the future captain and cornerstone of your franchise for years to come unless it’s a massive overpayment.

Columbus- Werenski, Bjorkstrand, and Texier are all but as untouchables as PLD, Jones and the other rookies are. Wennberg is just a cap dumb but also a very inexpensive buyout at just 500k.

If you still think Ottawa is the only one who declines you’re incredibly biased. Neither team wants anything to do with this as it’s a step backwards for both of them, plus I’m not sure Columbus can afford said trade cap wise and keep players like PLD on the team.

If I'm bias you're just as. But the sens aren't trading a cap dump... And they are trading a top 5 pick. So where's the concession for Columbus? Where does Ottawa make up the value of the top 5 pick and cap bump? Because I don't see it. I like Bjorkstrand and by all accounts Texier looks good. But saying Columbus goes backwards in this trade is ridiculous. The only knock is that the money may not work. But that's not what we're talking about.

Any team that is trading a cap dump and gaining a top 5 pick with relatively equal other pieces going each way is winning the trade. Short and long term. Its not even me being 'bias', I'll concede the equality of the 6 players.

This is insane. Even if you think Werenski is better (I don't), the difference is still minimal. I genuinely cannot fathom how Ottawa is taking a cap dump in Wenneberg, and even more bafflingly giving up a top 5 pick???

Even beyond trade value, Trading Chabot before his extension kicks in would be such a gut punch I legitimately don't think the fans could come back from. He is the guy. The guy they finally kept. He's the one piece of evidence of an organization that is genuinely committed to building a contending team.

Let’s go look at some stats

Werenski- 49.8% corsi, 61 oiGF, 51 oiGA, 41 points and 20 goals
Chabot- 50.1% corsi, 64 oiGF, 85 oiGA, 39 points and 6 goals
Brown- 47.8% corsi, 59 oiGF, 55 oiGA, 43 points and 13 goals
Bjorkstrand- 55.4% corsi, 40 oiGF, 28 oi GA, 36 points and 21 goals
White- 49.2% corsi, 29 oiGF, 38 oiGA, 23 points and 7 goals
Wennberg- 48.6% corsi, 24 oiGF, 30 oiGA, 22 points and 5 goals
Texier- 51% corsi, 19 oiGF, 15 oiGA, 13 points and 6 goals

By the stats collected Werenski and Chabot are very close to the same level. Bjorkstrand is better then Brown. Wennberg and White aren’t that far from each other and then there’s Texier. Oh and SJS 1st is the most valuable thing in the trade that Ottawa won’t trade.

Tbh this is a complete non issue due to the fact that Ottawa won’t move SJS 1st for almost anything and Columbus would rather keep Bjorkstrand after a breakout year. I don’t know why you’re being a dick about a trade that neither team wants to do.

This trade is a step back for both teams in the direction they want to go. Columbus wants to be more competitive and Ottawa wants to rebuild. Is the value in the Columbus side sure, do they have any interest in making this trade no, because PLD and Jones would have to be in the trade to get 3rd OA from Ottawa and that’s overkill to get 1 player.

You're acting like we should be happy to accept this deal when it is in fact bad for the Jackets. Your justification is that it's really bad for Ottawa. Whether or not it is really bad for Ottawa has ****-ALL to do with whether or not it is good or bad for the Jackets. It is bad for both teams. Stop trying to tell us what is and is not good for our team; we know it better than you do.
