Perfect add to the defense in a dream world

Created by: HOCKEYBOY448
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 19, 2020
Published: May 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
By no means do I see this as a reality, but I think it'd be the chance for a perfect addition to bring a really solid veteran option to the left side of our defense (can't just run 21 year olds). Not sure of the trade value, but it'd be really cool to see. Not sure if Nashville or New York does this, but it does help both teams. (Rangers shore up the left side d, Nashville gets a short term d in Smith with a potential long term guy in Rykov and get away from Turris while picking up Strome. I'd do it as a Rangers fan.

NYR
  1. Ekholm, Mattias
  2. Turris, Kyle ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Figured Turris at 25% retained is worth Smith and a 2021 3rd. I see him as the perfect stopgap center till Chytil takes over the 2nd line.
NSH
  1. Hájek, Libor
  2. Smith, Brendan

  4. 2020 1st round pick (NYR)

Just one year left on his deal.

Stop gap centers aren’t signed for four more years. Overpayment for the rangers.

I figured $4.5 isn't terrible for a 3rd line center in two years. Plus while Turris may not be as good as he once was, there is no denying he is an NHL caliber center. People need to stop relying solely upon prospects, because not every prospect makes it and most flame out. If anything Nashville could retain some more, but $3.5 to 4.5 mil a season for a center who will at least be on the 3rd line isn't bad. If that doesn't make sense to you that's alright. It's just your not winning in this league unless you surround your young guys with veterans and guys who have been around the league for years. No one wins with 15 guys under the age of 23-24, but thanks for your post.

What a terrible offer. Drop the 1st, 2nd and 3rd and Rangers still say no....
