Description
Hailey Salvian and Scott Wheeler wrote an article for The Athletic where they looked at Sens prospects and came up with comparables at both the higher and lower end of their upside. Thought it would be cool to look at that and add a few of my own thoughts as well.

My Thoughts:

Overall I like the thought process behind their selections. They look more at play style, rather than trying to project in terms of production.

Just looking at a couple of them, there are a few I agree with, and a few I don't.

Norris: The idea with this selection was that Norris is a player who is very good at everything, but is unlikely to be the best on his team at any one thing. I think in terms of play style, a better comparison would be David Krejci. The lower comparable was to show his lower ceiling as a guy who is just an okay 2C, though I think he safely projects as a more defensively responsible player than Bozak.

Batherson: this one was less defined about who is the higher end or lower end, but to highlight that Batherson is a player who looks like he will be the Best guy on the team, not including the superstars. The just not quite an Allstar tier.

Brannstrom: I like the Morrissey comparison to highlight the fact that Branny will likely be more of a two way player than a guy Like Chabot, though I disagree with it as I think Morrissey leans more towards the defensive side, and Brannstrom will lean more towards the offensive side.

Abramov: I was surprised at how high they were on Abramov's upside. He's definitely a very dynamic offensive talent, but I think he has a lot holding him back. I think he's got a lot of upside, but for him to succeed he's really going to need a spot in the top nine/top six and he's going to need the room to make mistakes.

That was the point they tried to make. Before he was Michael Delzaster, he was an incredibly talented young Dman. He wasn't a bum, he just was never able to take his game to that next level, and maintain it. There were always flashes, and that's why he's had such a long career to this point.

They wanted to contain the comparisons to guys of similar builds, and there just aren't that many guys who played C at that size. I like the Hayes comparison, though Brown still doesn't have that physical edge.

Do you recommend becoming a member of the Athletic? I’m kind of interested but I’ve heard mixed reviews about it. Very interesting post by the way, it was a good read

What a steep cliff to drop off from, eh? Specially for Brannstrom and Brown. I think a better comparable for Brannstrom would be Krug or Goligoski...? Maybe? Morrissey plays with more physicality and edge.

I think it's absolutely worth it. There are great writers covering every team in the league, and the stuff they're doing is fascinating. I'm sure they have some form of free trial like most subscription services do, so you should at the very least look at that.

I think Krug is a better example. Similar size, and he's a more offensive minded two way D. I think when Brannstrom is in his prime, he will be less productive offensively than Chabot, but a more complete two way player. He was much further ahead defensively in the NHL than I would have ever expected from him.

Del Zotto was a train wreck in his own end where as Morrisey is a defence first guy. Don’t see how they are similar styled players

The Norris comparison is interesting when contrasting everything I have read and heard about him. Seems to me he is going to be Fisher 2.0..... and if you're a Sens fan you run with that. (Loved Mike Fisher!!!!)

Only thing that seems to be missing is the gorgeous country music supetstar sidekick🤣🤣🤣. But he's young.

at least we can stop with the Brännström is the next Erik Karlsson comments.

But how about that Abramov comparable. Dadonov to Sprong.....that's like saying...Really good player to bust. WOW. What insight.

To be completely fair to him, nobody on that Avs team was good. Not including Sens legend Pat Weircioch that is.
