I think it'd be a big mistake to not lock him up this offseason, I think they could do 8x9M if they do but hes good enough to have a massive year and sign 5x9 the following offseason

i don't think less years is the move...buffalo is going to want to lock up dahlin for an insane amount of time so they can have the faces of the franchise be dahlin and eichel for as long as possible (that's if eichel doesn't demand a trade out of buffalo haha)

Unless he has a monster year next year, he wont get close to that

I think Buffalo should give him 10Mx8 to lock him up on a contract that will age amazingly or sign him to a 3 year deal @ 5-6M and then sign him to a massive 8 year deal after that. That way you get all of his best years and when/if he leaves he will be on the decline anyway.

You were probably one of those guys that said too much money when Eichel signed his contract. One year later his production went way up and his contact is a steal now.

Sometimes you gotta pay more than what a player is worth this second. Maybe overpay for a year or two and then the contract turns into a steal.

It's better to pay more on these contracts than guys like Okposo or Skinner whose contracts will never be steals.

I would like to think we could get it done, but i think we are looking at a much higher AAV. The recent trend is to get to arbitration and walk yourself to UFA. You will have to overpay to get max term. I think more than 10 million AAV to get all 8 years.

No thats what bad GMs do, he has not had a 9.5 million dollar season yet and you could lock him down at an affordable yet agreeable price. Even Hedmans first contract was 4 mill for 5 years. He has no arbitration rights, so all he can do is hold out. Eichel's contract was fine, everyone already knew he carried this team on his back. Dahlin has had ok numbers and has been an average defensive player.
