Don't you think Dubas would like to have Carter on LTIR to have room for Freddy+?

I don't think he's hurt though...
Also doesn't address the bad Rielly trade.

Imho, Rielly for Pietrangeli is not a 'bad trade'. Blues will need something tasty to pass on renenotiating with AP?

problem is that doesn't guarantee signing Pietro. Would rather trade Rielly for someone like Ellis who has a good deal and is still pretty young.

True, but check out guys currently on LTIR? Not many ...and Buds are in need of cap space.

It's all about getting Alex. If you are not guaranteed signing P for #s you like, you don't trade Rielly.

Leafs dont necessarily need LTIR players as sure it could help but even if there arent any dubas will make it work.

Imo, Leafs have to win in next 2 years...or its bye bye for another +50yrs. Pietrangelo can provide what Leafs need to put them over the top. In 3yrs time Tavares could be past his prime? Go for it now...as Raps did with Kawhi...or maybe go for Manson or Dumba or Dougie H...but sadly to do that will require trading Riels.

Leafs have to win in the next 2 years when their best 4 forwards are all signed for 4? Only reason Leafs aren't getting stacked this offseason is because the cap isn't going up due to corona... The cap will go up plenty before the big 4s current contracts are up meaning their window is at least that long, not to mention they have Sandin, Robertson, Lily, etc. coming up through the pipelines and I bet they get Freddy signed for another 3-5 years this offseason

LTIR does not equal free cap space.

That Rielly trade is the worst thing I've seen on this site, and I see about 100 bad trade ideas a day on here.

Doh! Of course LTIR is not equal to cap space.

And, IMO, given Leafs strength at LD ...moving Rielly is best way to solve Leafs biggest shortcoming - unless you aren't a Leafs fan...and don't care whether they win Stanley. Leafs should strive to be in Final each of next 2 years...and Rielly is a viable trade chip - provided ML receive what is fair return on RD.
