If you get Pietro you should trade Klingberg

I think this team is fine enough on the backend, the should really bring in some more scoring forwards. If you bring Pietrangelo in, you are now very tight in cap and have Heiskanen up with a new deal for next offseason who will get PAID. Definitely gotta move someone out

Edit- they are fine enough on the backend, if anything you bring in more defensive depth instead of a top level dman

My only question is how does Dallas sign Petro yet re-sign Heiskanen next year. Miro is going to get a HUGE deal. Also Hintz will get more than 3mil and way more than 2 years.

I would think the Stars will have room with Cogliano, Comeau, Johns and Oleksiak all hitting UFA at the end of the season

Personally, I'm not sure I'd be willing to give a 7-year deal to a 30-year old defenseman. He makes the team better now, sure. But in 4 years how much are we going to hate that contract? That being said, if something like this were to happen, Lindell is 100% gone. If the Stars don't trade him, he's instantly the choice for Seattle during the expansion draft next offseason. Add his $5.8M to the money from Cogliano, Comeau, Johns, and Oleksiak and Dallas has plenty of cap space to give Heiskanen his big contract.

Also, between guys like Bayreuther, Heatherington, Caamano, Gardner, Robertson, Harley, L'Esperance, etc., Dallas has plenty of extremely cheap NHL caliber players to fill out the bottom half of their lineup during the 2021-2022 season.

In regards to Hintz, he's not getting more than a bridge contract this offseason. He's done well for Dallas, sure...but he hasn't been the kind of high-end player that immediately jumps from his ELC to his big contract. Especially with Coronavirus shortening the season, and implicating the cap for next season, he and Gurianov are both seeing 2-3 year deals. Hintz will make more than Gurianov on his bridge deal, but he's going to realistically see between $3-3.5M while Gurianov will see somewhere in the $2.5-2.75M range.

And all of this is taking into account that there is no salary cap increase this offseason OR next offseason.

I like the Pietro signing for years 1-3. Giving a 30-year old a 7-year contract typically doesn't pan out towards the back half of the deal. I'd probably try giving a smaller deal to someone like Tyson Barrie, but I wouldn't immediately be against a Pietrangelo signing.
