Pegula gives Botterill a small budget

Description
I’m one of the rare Sabres fans that still think Tage Thompson will be a good player. He looked really good in the preseason, and had a solid 16 games in the AHL before his shoulder broke.

i guess you don't want mitts to develop...putting him at 2C is a death sentence for him and the rest of the team

I do want him to develop.. I was just playing as Pegula will probably give Botts a small budget due to the cap overages.

So you think TT will be good but value Risto as a sack of potatoes?

Yes.

You have it backwards. I hope TT can be a good 3rd line RW or a decent 2nd line RW but as of now I think his offensive ceiling is only 30 or so points. Risto on the other hand: a) shouldn't be traded b) is probably the most bashed player in the NHL even though he is actually a good hockey player and is getting better yearly c) if we traded him: c1) we would be dumb to c2) we would have to get back a solid 2nd line center or solid middle 6 RW and a high pick

It’s time to move on from Ristolainen. He has a high cap hit and he’s not very good. Granted he’s probably worth more than draft picks, no one really knows his value.

You are actually giving me hope that this team could be good:
1) I watched Thompson perform in the prospect challenge, I saw what he did in the playoffs last year as well as his 12 goals and 21 pts in 24 AHL regular season games, I agree, he will be ready next year.
2) I know it was a small sample size but Kahun did very well here. I am a bit worried that this was his third team in two years. But he has 68 pts in 138 NHL games, projecting that over 69 games played last year gives 34 pts and would have ranked him 5th among all forwards.
3) I hope you are correct about Casey, with Sam and Victor on his wings, he should be able gain confidence and produce. On the other hand what has he done to warrant more than a 5% raise.
4) I am worried about bringing in Cozens too soon, but if this is the line up for 2021-'22 I think the team could be ready for the playoffs. I have seen more than one Ottawa CFAGM trade Tierney for Miller. I think every Sabre fan undervalues Ristolainen. If that is all we could get in return, I would not trade him. Move Miller instead.
5) The Sabres are really unlucky:
a) Murray totally buggered the rebuild, all of his drafts, managing the cap, and managing his assets.
b) they got poorer draft pick in 5 out of the last 6 years and this year,
c) one more regulation win and they are in the playoffs,
d) Thompson getting hurt in his first NHL,
e) Hutton not performing up to expectations.
I was very disappointed with the Sabres after adding Simmonds and Kahun, I guess the GK was not up to standard and they lost 6 straight.

Over all a good job and a five star post.
