I'd be pretty tempted by that move, biggest downside would be Gaudreau and Rielly would both be UFAs at the end of 2022. If everything were to go as planned, they would both be in line for a substantial raise.

Gotta think of the whole picture though. If Rielly and him combine for $17M or more in 2 years, it'll be impossible to keep this group together.

You are either signing 28 yo Gaudreau to a long term deal for big $$ (which will inevitably include his decline years) and dealing one of Nylander/Marner, or letting Johnny Hockey walk as a UFA.
