Weird trade. I honestly think there isn't a right or wrong answer (coming from a leafs and flames fan)
Toronto probably wins this trade though

Tkachuk is like 8 months younger and is making less on a bridge deal
But I think Toronto wins

Tkachuk is way better & it’s not even close. Marner has just been riding Matthews’ coattail his whole career. Put Tkachuk in Marner’s position & he scores 50 goals.

I think neither wins. They both are playing in Canada, northern climate, overly regulated, overly taxed, and would probably love playing in FL Or AZ with the sun and low taxes And year round golf.

yes and Tkachuk has been riding on Lindholm and Gaudreau. His points go up when he plays with good players

I would prefer to have tkachuk because of his style of play. I think Marner is a bit more talented hockey player, but tkachuk brings and edge to go along with his skill.

It has nothing to do with age or contract though, in my opinion. They are essentially the same age. And after this year, when his bridge deal expires, tkachuk will be earning a comparable salary to Marner

In 2 years Tkachuk is getting more than Marner gets now. So it's a short term edge that could turn into a long term edge to Calgary.

lol. Marner's a home town boy. Also doesn't hurt he gets paid a **** ton in sponsorships.

In general most NHL'ers like playing in Canada since most NHL'ers are Canadians.

Toronto wins this trade. Tkachuk is the exact player the Leafs need a talented guy whose not afraid to use his body.

Imagine Tkachuk-Tavares-Nylander and then having Matthew's on a second line with Hyman.

Plus we can keep Johnsson or sign DeMelo.
