Without question, Alex Ovechkin is one of the most lazy and one dimensional players in history. He’s a one trick pony, the only thing he is capable of doing is scoring one timers by waiting at the half wall. He relies heavily on TJ Oshie & John Carlson to do all the work for him, and when he ain’t scoring, he’s not offering anything to his team. He’s an extremely poor skater & has no hands, he can’t undress opposing players & score solo goals. He doesn’t forecheck or battle for pucks and he doesn’t help out defensively either. Just not a very skilled & complete player at all. Patrick Kane is miles better than him.

i think a lot of these arguments are similar with kane. One dimentional just in a different category. Both of these guys are defensive liabilties.

Still, Ovi is a franchise player. Finding the place to take a shot is just as important as the actual shot itself. Much of Ovi's younger days featured far more skilled goals than one timers too.

Was that an intentional or accidental 'the office' reference?

8 time 50 goal scorer. Leads active NHL players in goals, with 144 more goals than 2nd place Marleau in 571 fewer games. #2 in points by active NHLers, behind only Joe Thornton. 8th all time goals scored, with a very real shot of catching Gretzky's 894 or at the very least Howe's 801.

If Ovi was so one-dimensional, goalies, defensemen, and coaches would have found a way to stop him years ago. Alexander Ovechkin is an elite sniper, without question, and arguably the greatest goal scorer of all time.

The difference between Ovechkin & Kane is that Kane is the most talented offensive player to ever play the game whereas Ovechkin isn’t. Just watch them play, Kane is the far better skater with much better hands & he generates so much more. No one cares about defense if you can drive offence at such a high level. In Kane’s prime, he had a WAR of 7.3 & a GAR of 16. Ovechkin has never had a WAR higher than 2 & his highest GAR is 7. There’s a reason why Kane has 3 cups whereas Ovie only has 1 & it ain’t because Kane was on a better team. He has to carry the Hawks every year. If Ovechkin was a soccer player, he’d be identified as a poacher. No technical skills & one dimensional.

The hardest thing to do in the NHL is score goals and he does that better than anyone the last 15 seasons

I put Kane in the Franchise area, same with Ovi. They're in the same category. Just because one has different strengths than the other doesn't mean they're a bad player. Kane might be one of the league's best skaters, but he is far inferior to Ovi as a sniper.

Don't even bother talking about cups either. Anyone who uses that as an argument LOSES the argument.

Lol OV hits hard and forechecks. You clearly haven't watched OV play if you think he can't score solo goals. Kane is more one dimensional, worse defensively as well. Kane wouldn't make an all time roster either, FYI

The reason why no one has stopped Ovechkin from scoring is because they don’t want to. Honestly, if they really want to stop him, they would’ve done it easily since all he does is stand there. They simply don’t regard him as an important opponent to stop & could care less if he scored. That’s the truth. If Ovechkin’s goals actually mattered, he would’ve won more than just 1 cup in his 15 seasons. He is only playing for himself to break the goal scoring record.

Also, the vast majority of his goals are on the powerplay, which makes them even more meaningless. You have to actually be able to impact play at 5v5 & clearly he doesn’t do that.

I’d take Kyle Connor, Alex DeBrincat & Jake Guentzel all ahead of Ovie.

Kane took an average team to become the greatest dynasty in the history of the game. Ovechkin choked for 12 seasons getting carried by excellent players like Carlson & Oshie. You just can’t ignore that fact. Kane is a generational player. The only reason why people don’t realize that is because they are biased towards Canadians & europeans. They envy the US for being the best county at hockey.

Yes absolutely, because even if he scores, he’s gonna cost his team in some way causing them to lose. That’s why he only won the cup once. So the opposition could care less if he scored.

Once again, Kane is the most talented offensive player in the league, no one cares if he doesn’t play defense as long as he’s driving offence. Ovechkin scores solo goals? Seriously? Show me a video of him doing so.

Ovi might have scored THE definition of a solo goal right here. One of the best efforts in NHL history.

I'm not even gonna watch it, but he's sliding in his back and shuffling the puck with the heel of the blade into the net right?
Also the guys isn't bad, have you seen some of his hits? Subban...

He made a nice move on a good defenceman, I'll give you that, but the goal, it was pure luck. How many times does Ovechkin score a solo goal compared to Kane?
