Which one of those three elements is the #1 RD or #2 RD who would be the only reason we would be trading Rickard Rakell?

Well, I may further that process by asking if having a $5 million defensman playing 3rd pairing is good asset management?

Neither trade is a fit.

Yes to Rakell.
No to Expensive 3rd pair D who has friction with our captain who’s only a top-5 player all time and the most important player in the NHL.

Buys out Johnson... gives $2M more, plus the Pens top trade Chip, for broken Subban.

Sidney is great, but top 5 all time? I dunno about that.

Gretzky, Lemeiux, Orr, Howe, are easily ahead of him in that discussion. We can start to debate Richard, Harvey, Brodeur, Selanne, Bourque, Hull, Ovie, Roy and Lidstrom - just to start. Second tier discussion includes Mahovolich, Dryden, Sakic, Bossy, like another 20 Habs from the 50s-60s, Espositio.....

Yup. Top 5 is a huuuuuuuuuugggggggeeeee stretch.

With Letangs injury history, having 3 solid right handed dmen is important for this team. Not hard to understand

Sid would be the first guy to put aside personal beef for the good of the team.

Saying Subban is broken is a stretch. He had a bad season, sure. But he played for the god damn devils. Although no where near the reclamation project Schultz was before arriving, pens coaching staff can work with him in regards to some of his tendencies that are not always appreciated.

I guess you should go tell that to all the former star players, current star players, analyst etc.. Dumb comment. Sid is easily top 5.

I'll respectfully disagree. I put him number 4 all time behind Lemieux, Gretzky, and Orr. I feel you're overrating Howe a bit. I totally get he put up a lot of points but that was a really long time ago and he played forever. Howe is not in my top-10, no disrespect to him or you.

I agree he wouldn't make a fuss, but he was the guy dribbling PK's face into the ice in a playoff series not too long ago...

Right again, but I would prefer someone cheaper than PK as well. TVR from CAR is a UFA this offseason and seems like a good fit. Also M. Roy from LAK via trade. I doubt NJD would retain all that and that makes for a very expensive #3RHD, although your point about injuries is very true and well made.

I am not dumb thank you. Just wouldn't pay $5 million with term for that.

🤦‍♂️yup ok. Lol. I guess hockey didn't exist before 1980.

At least the other guy saw there maybe an argument for Howe..... I respect that differnce of opinion.

I will maintain, Crosby is great. Is he a for sure top 5 of all time? Nope. Once you're outside the top 3, arguments can be had for a number of players.

It's where you step back as a homer and ask yourself..... for example, Lidstrom or Crosby? Who would I want for a decade of their prime? Brodeur or Crosby? There is no right or wrong answer, I am sure there are people in both camps. But THAT IS my point. After a clear top 3 (to which people debate the order), there are too many players that one can have an argument for.

He's had two bad seasons across two teams and it started after he came back from a major injury. Notice, came back from, not recovered from. Not recovered from because the injury has totally changed his ability to play. ie: broken.
