I think they have the assets to do it in the actual offseason, but theres a few things here that kind of stymie this particular deal. 1. Johnson has an NTC, and hasnt waived it in the past. If tampa could get him to waive, they would probably have a decent chance of signing serg to a bargain deal. 2 the devils would have to do this all as future considerations depending on how the league settles the format/timing of the draft/playoffs. 3. the lightning cant really afford to take on all of butchers contract, especially in addition to those other players. 5 the devils cant retain any additional salary until this summer (july 1 I believe)
I think a decent deal would involve the following
Future considerations (will butcher at 50% retained, 1.8mm)
Arizona's 1st round pick
Future considerations (sergachev signed to 6.5+ x 6+)
Whatever other pieces needed to make it work for either side.
