100% right, Newhook is part of the group for the Avs (Rantanen, Byram and Girard) that another teams would have to ridiculously overpay to acquire and could be argued the Avs value Newhook even more than Byram.

Depends if we are talking about his actually value or what it would cost to get him from Montreal. If you want any chance of getting Gallagher, you are going to have to severely overpay for him.

avs would just wait a year and get him in free agency. i don't see the avs paying anything over 1st, 2nd, b prospect even than that might be too high

Yeah, except there's virtually 0 chance he goes to FA. At that time, Montreal should be a consistent playoff team and Gallagher loves Montreal.

I doubt it. Montreal is a competitor as it is and we are only going to get better in the coming years. Nobody is going to give Gallagher 9 Million dollars, this isn't Buffalo, we don't have to overpay players to play here.

Also worth to note, A team like Boston will have a 36 YO Krejci, 36 YO Bergeron, 34 YO Marchand, 31 YO Krug, 35 YO Tuuk. I'm not sure that's a team you want to sign with if you want to play for a contender for years to come. Same can be said about Philly really.

fair enough point about boston but philly has lots of young talent.

montreal is just treading water. they are good enough to be a bubble team but don't have the young talent to make it to the top. not sure gallagher will sign up for that.

Montreal has one of the best prospect cores in the league and has 14 more picks in this draft as well as 11 picks next year. On top of that, our entire forward core is still in theirs 20s (most still not even in their primes)

Our defense could use work, but with those picks and our defensive prospects, there's nothing to worry about.

Primeau has won awards where ever he played. Romanov has shown promise and the hype that surrounds him is for a true reason. Caufield has real goal scoring potential. Then you factor in Domi/Drouin both being 25 and Kotkaniemi/Poehling in the AHL. Then we have a top 10 pick in this years draft.

That's way too much for a rental Gallagher. It would probably be a 2021 1st + prospect if it's a pure rental, and a conditional pick if he signs an extension
