Trade Georgiev or Buyout Hank

Created by: Shakabakes
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2020
Published: May 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just interested to hear the take of Rangers fans on who backs up the Czar next year.

Buyout Hank (since no one will trade for him) to free some Cap. Georgiev is obviously the better option, anyway. However, Georgiev raised his stock a lot this Season. With Shesterkin expected to get more Starts in 20-21, this could be a time to strike a deal while the iron is hot. Lot of teams need goaltending, and Georgiev would be financially cheaper than the UFA options.

Or trade Georgiev (if the deal is right), and roll with Hank. Acquire assets, but Cap space is tight.

Shesterkin is the Starter of the future. So even if Rangers retain Georgiev now, they will be trading him in another year or 2, anyway (with 1 of Wall or Huska taking the Backup role).

I like Georgie, but unless there is a third team involved, I think our trading days are over again.

You don't think we have the assets to land a goalie you could not trade at the deadline because you wanted a first and rumor of more? OK!
My only point was that we would not trade with each other bc it could backfire in the other teams face (Grabner is my unfortunate example!). That;s all

Would Rangers consider eating 3.5 million of hank's deal and trading him. It spreads out what it would cost to do a buyout. If Rangers did that I think he would have some trade value.

Rangers would eat 50% (4.25M) if they could move him. But not only am I skeptical of teams having interest, his NTC also comes into play.

Interest would be there on the Rangers side (lot of recent chatter between him and Toronto). But why would the Leafs want him now after they got Campbell? Is it believable that the Leafs could move Anderson?

Ya. It really depends this offseason how much Holtby and Mark and the others get. I it looks like he will cost less then 6.5m then we keep him. If not I say we trade him and then have a tandem with Campbell and someone else, like Georgiyev. He has played 1/2~ seasons before and he will come cheap. That's just my thoughts tho.

Trade Georgiev.
His value won’t go up sitting behind Shesterkin for the next 2 seasons.

I am leaning that way myself, for the same reason. His value is high. Suitors are out there (San Jose, Detroit, Ottawa, Calgary, Chicago etc). And even if you don't trade him this Offseason, you'll probably trade him the next one. Shesterkin is the future. So if you know Georgiev is getting moved at some point, then why prolong a trade?

Should have made this a 21 team, Hank doesn't fit on the team or in tight cap. He will save face and retire, play with his bro in Sweden then return with NYR as ?? while recouping his 5.5m. Unless a contending teams starter goes down long term, Hank will not go anywhere to ride the pine. We Have to go with the Russian duo, with Igor continuing his dominance. For this years crazy March madness/Covid Cup; Igor starts, then Hank, then even Alex. Short leash. Hopefully Igor hits the ground running, again. BTW ABSOLUTELY CRAZY that we're in the effin playoffs!!! LGR !! !!!🙏

They dominated Carolina this Season, and were on fire right before the stoppage. Good Series opponent for them. Shesterkin will be in net, though.

I would be all for him retiring, just not sure if he would go that route.

Definitely wouldn't go anywhere as a Backup, but not sure any team would want him as a Starter.

His buyout is 5.5 million 20/21 season and 1.5 million in 21/22 season so retaining 1/2 wouldn't make sense. If Rangers ate 3.5 million for the next 2 years it would give Rangers some cap flexibility.
I wonder if he would waive his nmc to go to Minnesota? He could play with his old friend Zuccarello and the end of his contract would line up nicely with Kahkonen being ready to be a number 1. Wild would have to decide what to do with Dubnyk first, but they have a few options on how they can deal with that.

Disregard I thought Hank had 2 years left on his contract. Sorry.

Yeah, only 1 year left. Wild have the Cap space (don't think that's ever happened) to retain half, so it's a possibility. Zuccarello being there actually could entice him. If the Rangers could get a 3rd or 4th to retain half, that would work well.
