My playoff lines against EDM

Description
These lines are specific for EDM.

Let's be honest with each other EDM fans...EDM has literally one scoring line. It's a freak of nature kind of scoring line, but they only have one. IF the Oilers decide to split of Draisaitl and McDavid...I'd still keep these lines.

The idea here is that no one line will be able to contain the combo of McDavid and Draisaitl. They're too lethal. So we'll have to wear them out with a defensive stopper line and the scrapper 4th line. The Toews line can win the majority of their faceoffs, they have high possession, physicality, and at least decent speed. The 4th line has Kampf who is the Hawks 2nd best faceoff guy...they have more speed than the Toews line and also plenty of physicality. Additionally, if Zach Smith's lack of speed becomes a factor...then game 2 Matthew Highmore comes in. Much faster and peskier.

As for the 2nd line. It'll be purely and offensive line. Dach's a big boy that's capable of retrieving pucks in the corners and not afraid to be in front of the net. Kubalik has a snipe and Kane's the best in the business when it comes to vision/passing, but also a serious threat to snipe the puck too.

The 3rd line might actually be my favorite line because I think the potential is sky high. Bring Strome back to the center position...forget that stupid winger idea and NEVER bring it back! Set Debrincat back with his bromance and this will also allow Nylander to play a bottom six role. He was FAR better this year (technically still a rookie mind everyone) on the 3rd and 4th line. He's still learning the NHL game. The Cat and Strome can be a big help. We just NEED to make sure Nylander leaves everything on the ice every shift...which he WAS doing at the end of the season.

Yeah Yeah, having Lehner as a backup would have been nice...and for the record...he would have been the backup. BUT we can't blame Bowman for not predicting a 24 team playoffs. He got what he got...Crow's in net anyway. He's well rested and hopefully training right now. We ride him every game!

For defense, I put Keith and Murphy together because of just how dynamic McDavid and Draisaitl are. If they get split between lines...that's why I kept Maata with Koekkoek. I'm not sure which Dpair goes to Draisaitl vs McDavid...that's a real question, but this team isn't a perfect team. Some guys will just need to step up. So here's your chance 4K!

Also, I put DeHaan with Boqvist on the bottom pair because A.) DeHaan needs even more conditioning. He's supposedly ready to play health wise...and he does bring a ton of physicality which is a premium in the playoffs...So 3rd pair it is for now.

The (2) extras and the rookies. It would just be great experience for them to be a part of playoff hockey. The Hawks are playing with house money which makes them a dangerous team!

The PP needs to be aggressive. Unleash Boqvist on the top unit. Is it possible this unit gives up a shortie...maybe. But you need to start trusting your guys at some point. Again, it's house money, make the most of it!

I switched Maata onto the top PK unit vs Keith because Keith's most effective 5v5. Keith will still be on the 2nd unit, but I'm not so sure we want Keith to be on the Top pair...Top PP...Top PK. We need to pick and choose.

I like it; The Keith-Murphy pair is the only pair where Keith managed to net a positive xG all year. I'd honestly rather see Mitchell with De Haan instead of Boqvist, just because Mitchell is more aggressive and a more complete defenseman right now.

FYI EDM plays McDavid with Ennis/Athanasiou/Kassian on first line and RNH-Draisaitl-Yamamoto as second line.

McDavid and Draisaitl have been permanently apart since late December - where have you been?

"As for the 2nd line. It'll be purely and offensive line."

Would you be comfortable hard matching that line against the Oilers 2nd line of Nugent-Hopkins, Draisaitl and Yamamoto?

It would be really fun to watch on tv.

If Tippett runs Athanasiou - McDavid - Kassian, is "decent speed" going to be good enough?

Love that 3rd line, honestly. I'm jealous, Edmonton doesn't have an answer for that line. The best we can hope for is to keep them from scoring too much.

I think this series will come down to the bottom-6, and which goalie finds his game first.

The goalie thing for sure. A hot goalie can turn a 7-game series, so a 5-game series will be much more susceptible to goalie heaters.

I don't agree about the bottom six exactly. That would only affect the series to the extent that the 2 teams' top-6's are equal; they aren't.

For the last month maybe...Connor McDavid's played more 5v5 hockey with Draisaitl...than away from him.

Shifts within the game is part of the game. EMD would get the last shift for sure. Understood. I think this is where Dach needs this kind of experience. The Hawks are playing with house money. Draisaitl has more Man Muscle than Dach, but believe it or not...Dach's ever so slightly bigger. So yeah, this is what I would do. Can't protect the kids forever.

If EDM splits McDavid and Drai which you guys (more knowledgable Oilers fans than me to be honest) think they'd do...I would be worried about the speed delta FOR SURE! I might even try to swap Highmore in for Smith and just be pesky nats while attempting to put the Keith/Murphy line out there defensively. It would worry me for sure.

I don't think the top-6 is really that far apart for both teams. If the Toews line holds up then whichever line they go against will be a wash, I'd put him against the Drais line. McDavid line vs the Kane line would be interesting.

I do think CHI has more options for line juggling than EDM does. Also Chi has so much more Playoff experience than EDM. It should be a good 3-5 games between the 2 teams. I do think this will be the best playin round (or whatever it'll be called) series.

I mean, he's never played NHL hockey yet. I have zero issue giving him ice time. I just think we need Boqvist's PP which tilts the edge toward him.

I’m fine with those forward lines but Koekkoek has no business seeing the ice in my opinion. He’ll get eaten up by EDM’s speed and take too many penalties. I’d much rather take my chances with Mitchell and Boqvist playing. Now if De Haan wasn’t ready then Koekkoek would be in the lineup but I just don’t think he should be out there.
