Description
This is all about retooling the roster for next season, which is desperately needed in Buffalo. Right now everything is so negative over there and it’s only a matter of time until Eichel gets fed up. So these trades are to improve the Sabres and give Eichel and Dahlin some much needed help.

Domi for Rienhart is something I think would really benifit both sides. It gives Buffalo a second line centre which is a big need there and gives Montreal a top 6 right winger so they have him behind Gallagher and give that second centre spot to Suzuki. This trade is hust very beneficial to both sides.

Tampa has been linked to Risto for a while. I think a package like this gets it done. You get a top 6 winger, a young defenceman with upside, and a couple of picks. This gives the sabres some depth and draft picks, and the Lightning a top 4 dman with a good contract to put next to Hedman, Sergachev, or McDonough giving them a redeculos top 4. I think once again, this is beneficial to both sides.

The Rangers one is very controversial. The Sabres give up a young centre with top 6 potential, a good young centre with upside, a proven top 9 winger with offensive upside, and a pick. They aquire a top 6 forward in Strome, and a young goalie that looks like he can be a starter in this league along with the contract of Mark Staal. I dont think the Rangers are going to be able to sign Strome with Deangelo needing a new contract and Krieders new contract kicking in. So the Sabres take advantage of the situation and pick him up with a young goalie and a bad contract. I think once again this does good for both sides.

Puljuarvi clearly will never wear an Oilers jersey again, but the kid has a ton of talent. He can be a top 6 forward in the NHL he just wasn’t ready when Edmonton rushed him onto the scene. He displayed his dominance in Liga this year averaging just about a point per game. This would be a great add to the Sabres top 9. Edmonton aquires a good offensive defensman with a resonable contract that can play in the top 4. The teams also switch draft picks to even out the trade.

The Carter Hutton trade can be with just about any team, but Montreal needs a backup so i figured they might have a little bit of interest. But I wouldnt expect a big return for Hutton at this point.

I resigned Simmonds because Buffalo clearly has some type of plan with him after trading for him at the deadline. Then theres Lewis, Weise, and Shaller which are just to provide cheap depth and vetern presences in the locker room. Then theres Ben Hutton who is a good defenceman coming into his prime years that just had a good year on a bad Kings team.

Let me know what you think!

I kind of like the idea behind a Domi/Reinhart trade, but I think Montreal would have to sweeten the pot a bit

seeing dahlin and cernak on a pairing together is so funny also how do you plan on signing dahlin and joki next offseason with this cap situation

You're expecting way too much in that Tampa trade, if anything Buffalo should be sending some picks with Ristolainen.

Edmonton is pretty set on D actually, don't see them needing Miller, Pulujarvi might not have a ton of value but don't see Holland selling him for a couple years of Miller and downgrading a round in the draft.

Hutton is probably more of a buyout candidate then anything else, the Habs trade is interesting for both teams and I like the Rangers trade for Buffalo but doubt the Rangers would have any interest in that deal, they're trading the established players for prospects that haven't proven anything yet, Staal's trade protection likely prevents this anyway.

Definitely a better Sabres team but unrealistic trades, they all favor the Sabres a bit too much except for the Habs trade which is a fairly even swap.

Montreal adds their 2020 1st imo. Reinhart is rock steady and gets better every season. Domi is the exact opposite. No thanks

Tampa deal is bad as they gain only possibly 2.5 million in cap and lose two players and picks and gain one suspect defensively challenged defensman.

Based purely off points

Domi:
15/16: 52 points
16/17: 38 points
17/18: 45 points
18/19: 72 points
19/20: 44 points (on pace for 50)

Reinhart (excluding his 9 game tryout in 14/15)
15/16: 42 points
16/17: 47 points
17/18: 50 points
18/19: 65 points
19/20: 50 points (on pace for 59)

As you may notice, Domi has a good year followed by a down year. Is anything but consistent. Had two straight seasons with 9 goals. Reinhart has put up more points every season (except 19/20 but was on pace for career goal high) and has four 20 goal seasons in just 5 years. It's pretty clear to me who the better player is. Sure Domi can play center which is nice, but we have Cozens to fill that spot in 1-2 years.

Tampa would be trading Cernak (and secondarily, Killorn) only if the exchange would benefit the Lightning's cap structure. If they could sign Cernak for $2.5 million, Killorn plus Cernak = roughly $7 million. Ristolainen plus a minimum-level contract to fill the vacated roster slot = roughly $6.25 million, and both players are a downgrade for Tampa. That deal makes absolutely no sense players for players, never mind the draft picks going in the wrong direction.

So if you use some context and factor in the games Domi missed from injury in 16-17 they have very similar numbers, maybe the Habs need to add and that's a valid debate but no way it should be a 1st round pick, that's a laughable suggestion.

I get a chuckle how so many on here have guys penciled in as sure things to fill a certain position, there's a good chance Cozens might need some time in the AHL and when he makes the Sabres he might need to be eased in at 3 or 4C, lots of pressure and expectations for a young player to step in and instantly be a 2C, adding Domi would give the Sabres a much needed 2C and some depth at an important position until Cozens is ready for the job and if Cozens is ready sooner then later Domi can be shifted to the wing.

I get a chuckle at users who misinterpret/misread comments. I said Cozens would need 1-2 years, that's not instant

Well 1 is pretty instant and in the meantime you need a 2C so Domi fills the void.

Yeah, the guy who plays with meh players or the guy that plays with Eichel... Put up similar points. One is a center, the other is a winger. I know who I would want more.
