Additional Details:
If RNH has another great season he may price himself out of EDM, especially in a league starved for C's. Fiala while not a C gives the Oilers a high end winger, at half of RNH's price for this year, and his raise as an RFA would be cheaper than RNH as a UFA

If you want Fiala you will have to do better than that.

Fiala was like a top 15 winger for the second half of the season. Wild probably dont even do Fiala for RNH 1 for 1, they'd rather keep Fiala and hope he continues that high level of play

RNH has been a 60+ point player for 3 straight years and a strong two-way centre for the oilers. You'd need to do more to that for that trade to go through cause the oilers can find an easier way to dump chiasson if need be and a 50ish point guy having 1 good year + hartman would never get that done.

Regardless though, I think that nuge will be a career oilers at this point and if the oilers want to be a contending team for the next few years they will do whatever it takes to keep him cause centre depth wins cups. Only way nuge would get dealt is if Holland was gifted a hugely one-sided offer that cannot be refused.

As for the Jost trade, the key pieces are there. Its just more of moving a pick here or there to get that done.

Yes Nuge is a good player, but the reality of a cap world is tough choices need to be made. Literally the only downside of having 2 of the best in the game. Nuge will look at similar players of similar age like, Kuznetsov, Hayes, O'Reilly. That gives you a ballpark of 7.2-7.8 on an 8 year deal. If he wants to test the market, you can bet he would see 8x7, because he is far and away the best C that would be available

Also what do you pay Yamamoto. He's as big a part of that line as 29 or 93. Would think that contract starts with a 6 best case scenario

You also only have 2 years until Nurse can walk, he's a big part of what the Oilers do. I'm not sure the Oilers can keep both Nurse and Nuge...

I see the oil dumping nurse before nuge. The oilers finally have massive defensive depth and nurse has been known already to ask way more than what he is worth in regards to contract negotiations. The team has a few guys that can play nurse's role on the team for cheaper. Thats why I would prefer the oilers trade away nurse this offseason rather than get rid of a guy like larsson or losing nuge.

The big salary questions with edmonton (should they get rid of nurse) would be then focused on the overpaid pieces they have like neal (although i wouldnt be thrilled with losing 20 goals) chiasson, russel khaira, etc. These are guys that can be moved to clear cap space to sign longer-term deals to the young guys and provide a cheaper supporting cast to boot. Regardless though, the oil will be close to the cap with any scenario as will any team that views themselves as potential/ so-to-be contenders. Wouldn't mind seeing what kinda of haul the oil can get for a guy like nurse.

A favorable scenario might have Holland trading away Nurse at the 2021 draft, getting at least a quality top six forward in return, and then signing RNH on the first day of the UFA window. Larsson will also have an expiring contract, so he is likely to be dealt as well, quite possibly in exchange for a quality 3C.

That's quite a bit of physicality and experience to lose from the back end, but it could be the price paid to build a contender and remain cap compliant.

It could happen, but it’s also really risky. The Oilers have two high end prospects in Broberg and Bouchard, but they are just that prospects... if they don’t turn out as planned then Edmonton is exactly right back to where they were when they made the Hall-Larson deal... they will have too many forwards and not enough D

Colorado doesn't do this. In Jost we have at least a 3rd liner (maybe more) who works hard and is liked by coaches, the GM, and teammates. Puljujarvi has talent but if he couldn't even work hard enough to learn English I don't see why he'd be a player Sakic targets.

That said, what would Edmonton want from Colorado for RNH? What are your biggest needs?

Fiala was good in the 2nd half (from Christmas onwards), but Nuge was in another league.

Nuge: 31, 15-26-41 [+8] / 6th in scoring
Fiala: 31, 15-18-33 [-2] / 19th in scoring

I'm not sure why Edmonton would accept this proposal, the only upside is cap space. The Oilers roster is worse for this trade.

Wild pass. RNH would be nice to have and MN should go after him when he's a UFA after next season; but not trading Fiala for a rental 2C.
