I guess he likely gets taken by Seattle anyway in St. Louis but still that's not a ton of value coming back

Why would the Blues expose him? He's arguably their best defensive forward on the entire team.

Why wouldn't Chicago cut out the middle man and trade for Ferrari and keep Barratt???

Well think about who they'll have to protect:

1. ROR
2. Schenn
3. Schwartz
4. Thomas
5. Kyrou

That leaves 2 spots for Sunqvist, Blais, Barbashev, and Perron

So All-Star Perron and a younger guy in Barbashev get exposed? I still think they'll keep Sundqvist but it's not out of the question one of those guys gets moved.

I think Perron gets exposed due to his age. And yeah, Barbashev most likely will still be exposed

Tarasenko. Also Schwartz will be a UFA so he won’t be protected. It’ll come down to Sunny or Perron.

Ferraro's one of the only bright spots in SJ, there's no way they trade him for an older and injury prone De Haan

I think PHI would have to retain at least $1M on that JVR contract to get the conversation started. The better play for CGY is to move Gaudreau for much younger player(s)/pick(s). Even with that lethal PHI powerplay, JVR hasn't been putting up 50 points per season. And he's missed decent chunks of time in 3 (out of 11) seasons with injury. And he just turned that dangerous decline age of 31.

Frost is a great prospect with value. And a 1st is decent value, but that 1st rounder is projected at #25 currently.

I think this is in the ballpark from a technical value standpoint, but not interesting enough for CGY.

Had some trades with Ghost for Mete and then Mete for Ferraro, but some SJS fans said they weren't really into Gostisbehere since he's mainly a puck moving defensemen. Still a longshot they will move Ferraro. He's talented and everything, but I doubt he'll ever be more than a third pair defensemen.

Trade was more to relieve St. Louis for some cap space and give them a bottom-six prospect who is defensively minded like Sundqvist. Seems reasonable to be a situation where he has more value to them than what the trade market would reflect.

Ferraro won't be a goal scorer and Gostisbehere has some past seasons where he was successful in that capacity. Chicago was the 28th worst last season for 5v5 goals from defensemen. The situation is more of moving Gostisbehere to a new team to give him a chance to really play his game. He's got the talent, just isn't the right fit in Philadelphia.

It's fairly similar to along the lines of returns of the Brayden Schenn trade, except JVR can still play in top-six/nine unlike Jori Lehtera. It basically comes down to whether or not Calgary has a large enough incentive to move Gaudreau for a prospect with top-six upside, a 1st round pick, and JVR.

Poor Perron just wants to be a St. Louis Blue, how many times are they going to move on from him? lol
