Can't wait to see leafs fans reactions this summer when he gets traded for anything less than a top 4 RHD

Then is probably not gonna be traded unless he gets top-4 D back which for Murphy is a very fair deal.

Does this make you feel better about making a proposal that is bad and another team wouldnt do?

they'll keep him if they can't get a top 4 D. No rush to move him at all

Top 4 Rhd vs middle six winger? Ok I'll bite. What else are the Leafs going to send. And dont say a 3rd.

I don't think Kapanen lands any top RHD. It would definitely have to include other players/assets. Is Murphy a good D? Sure. Is he top tier RHD? No.

I think Murphy and DeMelo are comparable in that they are steady defensively but let's not confuse steady with top tier.

Nothing. Kapanen who has top-6 upside but is safe bet for 50pt mid-6 two-way winger who is super fast and has very good defensive skills is enough for top-4 defensive defenseman who is 26yo (still pretty young) and has great shutdown abilities. Kapanen for Murphy.. we can add 3rd and some prospect and you send Alex Nylander the other way to balance it, but Kap for Murph is considered a fair deal not just by me but by many people here.

I agree that Murphy and DeMelo are comparable.

I still think to the right team, Kapanen can land an RD that is good enough. Like Murphy.

Koekkoek is about as good as Murphy and played mostly on the right side this season. Also will probably come cheaper as an RFA. I know he isn't a righty, but just saying....

I really don't see what team is gonna trade you a RHD for him strait up. And adding a 3rd doesn't really move the needle much. Teams that are good aern't trading their RHD's and teams that are bad need quality pieces back. Moving a top 4 RHD for kapanen and a bunch of junk just doesn't make sense. The same arguments you make about kapanen being young and having top 6 potential and all that can be said for Nylander. Sure nylander is less of a sure thing but that's why you're getting Koekkoek and a pick back. Koekkoek was just about as good as murphy last year and this move clears a little cap for the leafs.

that package doesn't get you from 9 to 6, not this year. especially not when you're trying to trade with a team that needs high end talent desperately. NJ has 0 interest in this deal

I think you're overrating your forwards, but that's a typical TOR thing to do. Yes, he's fast. AND don't get me wrong, The Hawks need a speedy guy to stretch the ice, but you don't give up a top 4 RHD (on a better contract) for a middle six winger. That's literally the easiest position to find. I also very much doubt he's a "safe bet" for a 50 point winger on another team. There will be room for growth, but other teams don't have (2) #1 OA centers AND system 1,000% needs to play a factor. TOR's system is...Let's see who can score 7 goals first and they'll be the winner. That's not how the Hawks play. KK getting 50 points would be quite tough.

KK's 1st Option ) He plays with ELITE talent...he was a 44 points guy. Last year he spent 55% of his 5v5 shifts with Matthews...scored 44 points At least with these 44 points we know he went up against some good defensive forward lines, but do the Hawks have an Auston Matthews right now?

KK's 2nd Option ) He plays his role as a middle six winger...he's a ~43 point guy. This past year he was dropped down to more of a 3rd line role...so he doesn't get the benefit of being with Matthews, but he also doesn't have the face the shutdown line...OR any kind of lockdown line whatsoever, but he scored 36 points.

In order for me to give up the position in MOST demand on a better contract...I'd need to see KK get that 50 points against some real line to line competition without Matthews/Tavares. Heck, if he did that...I'd give you more than Murphy, but he hasn't and likely won't get the chance because of TOR's team. AND whatever team acquires him needs to think "buyer beware" Your systems better be 99.9999% offense and forget the defense.

Is Maatta's value really that low? I would be more than happy to try him out in Winnipeg. I understand that he is a slower defenceman but his stats seem pretty decent. I'll admit though, I don't know a lot about him other than that.

He was solid last year, hawks just need to move one guy on the left side. Dehaan is better than Maata and we have young guys like beaudan and Carlson that we want to give icetime to. Matta is solid on the bottom pair but his contract is a bit steep
