Revisiting the Gaudreau trade I made last week

Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 25, 2020
Published: May 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade was: Jason Dickinson, Ty Dellandrea, Colton Point, Julius Honka (Reserve list), Jason Robertson and a 2021 1st rounder for Johnny Gaudreau.

I'm gonna remove Dellandrea but add a 2022 3rd rounder to the deal. I agree that Nill likely (and rightly) wouldn't want to give up his 2nd best prospect, after Harley.

The problem with this trade is that this trade is quantity over quality and the flames want quality. The only thing n this trade that the flames want is the 1st but that is top 20 protected so that diminished the value quite a bit. I don’t think the flames would say yes

Way too much for Barrie, the Flames have enough pylons on the back end.

    I’m not big on Honka
Point has been a bad ECHL goalie two years in a row.
Robertson and Dickinson are two good young players but they play positions where the Flames have a ton of options, left handed forwards.
Also I doubt the Flames have any interest in a pick that’s top 20 protected

Say the pick is 23 or so, you get a B+/A- prospect there. Robertson is very good plus you free up cap room for upgrades at C and at D (you really need a PP quarterback and Barrie is the best fit IMO)

Barrie will make at least 7m. If the term is maxed maybe he gets a lower AAV, but I doubt it.

It would fix Calgary RHD... one more year for Gaudreau as everyone are saying that it cost more for a TOP D then a TOP 6F.
