Playoff starting lines

Created by: Oilyboy
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 25, 2020
Published: May 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I would try this fourth line to start. Gives some grit in the forecheck, while the other bottom 6 line is more about speed on the wings.

If JJ falters of course, Haas steps in.

On D, Russell and Green simply have the most playoff experience. May not show, in which case Jones and Benning are right there. But I think game 1, you would want to go with the guys who have been there after this huge gap in playing time.

NHL.com reported that Draisaitl line was him, Yamamato, and Ennis...am I just mistaken with it being Nuge and not Ennis?

Strange. Nuge-Drai-Yam has been a line for 20 plus straight games now. I would be surprised if it changed, it has been essentially the top line while McD just gets it done with whoever.

Ye, no they where reporting that Draisaitl and his line was going off and wanted to show it off in the playoffs... Idk what's up with that. Probably a mistake

Looks good! Who do you think will start in the playoffs, or will Koskinen and Smith share starts?

Over Ennis or Archibald?? In my opinion I wouldn’t.

over Archibald. Neal is more productive and should get more than 4th line minutes imo

Neal had almost as many goals as Archibald had points. you cannot win a cup with Archibald as a third liner. even Riley Sheehan shouldn't be your 3C, but thats beside the point. both Neal and Archibald aren't very good 3rd line players tbh id take Neal over him contract excluded. Edmontons biggest problem is their depth.

I see what you are saying, but he isn’t more productive than Archibald 5v5. Which that’s why I wouldn’t put him on the 3rd line above Archibald, but I probably would put him on one of the PP if there is a spot for him. Neal 14 points 5v5 in 55 games, and Archibald 21 points 5v5 in 62 games. Plus Archibald is better at defence then Neal is.

neal is a terrible player 5v5, so he shouldn't play a lot of minutes

Including the PP yes Neal had almost as much goals as Archibald had points, but he only had 7 goals 5v5. He is a PP specialist, but I think Archibald is better 5v5.

I think Koskinen, more consistent than Smith when you look at the season as a whole so he deserves the first shot. Even when he’s not been at his best this season he’s been OK, whereas Smith has had both amazing and terrible stretches...wouldn’t want to risk it in a 5 game series.

These bottom 2 lines shouldn’t be absurdly far apart minutes wise. And yes, Neal overall gets 3rd line minutes with PP time, just 5 on 5 lines here, where I trust Archibald way more to have a better impact.

Its not a mistake on either side really. Tippett had mini experiment in last couple games trying to get McD a legit top 6 winger since he figured the Drai-Yamo pairing could carry 2nd line with a lesser winger then RNH.

The Sheahan-Archibald line was the matchup line usually Khaira on LW until the TDL. Archibald had rough transition on the team only had 1 point in first 28 games but 20 points in the last 34. He has found his place and that's why he got 2 year extension.

those 2 would be good fourth liners but not 3rd liners on a cup team
