Sergachev OS

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: May 25, 2020
Published: May 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For reference here's what the 2021 offseason would look like if we signed Sergachev:

- Cole and Calvert leave in UFA, being replaced by $1m ufa 7D and Bowers (ELC), saving $5.25m capspace.
- Graves selected by Seattle - replace by UFA 6D at $2m (save $750k)
- Trade one of Donskoi/Compher to make room for Newhook (saves $2.5-2.9m) - alternatively we could pay Seattle a pick to pick Donskoi/Compher instead of Graves.
- Trade Johnson, replace with Timmins (saves $4m).

The savings above are enough to pay for resignings of Makar + Landeskog + Grubauer.

ED (7+3+1):
- Mackinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Kadri, Burakovsky, Nichuskin, Jost
- Makar, Girard, Sergachev
- Grubauer
Exposed: Donskoi, Compher, Graves, Francouz

No, Girard is on a great contract so he won't get moved.

We would maybe be able to trade Byram (or Sergachev) for a good ELC forward in 2023 though. Alternatively we could even do that already now, by moving Byram to NJ for No.6/10 + Bratt, or something like that. With the pick we could select a forward that would help us cheaply a couple of years down the line. Or alternatively Graves could be expendable in a trade scenario.

Sergachev probably isn't the ideal target as we have plenty of LHD's, but he can play his off-side and acquiring him would give us tonnes of options.

I don't think they need Sergachev because they already have Girard and Byram. Sergy will cost a lot in terms of AAV to be ship out of Tampa. Need to save some $$$ for Landeskog and especially Makar.

Note that I said in the description that Johnson would get traded and replaced by Timmins in 2021. Johnson is overpaid but we could probably move him if we found a 3rd team to retain $1-2m in exchange for a 2nd or something similar.

I was playing around with the pairings. There's many ways it could work, such as any of the pairing combo's below.

Graves --- Makar
Girard --- Sergachev
Byram --- Johnson

or

Girard -------- Makar
Sergachev -- Johnson
Byram ------- Graves

or

Girard -------- Makar
Sergachev -- Graves
Byram ------- Johnson

This is kind of like the Barrie comments, you can have too much of the same thing and it hurts your team. That’s just too much offense first puck movers in serg makar byram and girard. Just asking to be bullied

Really avs taking a run at petro is the only move that makes sense for the dcore. A true Top pairing guy makes more sense than messing around with another offensive first guy

I outlined exactly how we can resign Landeskog and Makar in the description.

You're welcome. I figure that Vancouver could use an extra bottom 6 forward.

I dont see Sergachev as a target for COL - we have too many LHD already. I think they would be better off adding to their forwards if anything, but if you really want to add to the D core I would go for a rental RHD who would eventually be replaced by Timmins.

Also if Johnson doesnt waive his NMC we would be screwed for the expansion draft as we would lose one of Girard, Makar, Sergachev unless we protect 4/4/1 (in which case we would lose someone like Burakovsky).

If Newhook does a Makar in the 2021 playoffs we could trade Kadri in the 2021 offseason, just like we traded Barrie.

That would allow us to go 4+4:

- Mackinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Burakovsky
- Makar, Girard, Sergachev, Johnson/Graves
- Grubauer
Exposed: Compher, Donskoi, Nichuskin, Jost, Graves/Johnson, Francouz

Probably unlikely though. I think Sakic's plan is to go 7+3+1 and try to keep Graves if he can get Johnson to waive.
