If he tells VAN that he doesnt want to sign then sure its fair but only VAN personnel and Markstrom (and his agent) will know for sure. He probably hasnt even decided yet so its too early to be thinking of trading UFA rights

Why would Markstrom's UFA rights be worth more then Hayes? Rights just allow you to sign for 8 years instead of 7, and talking to his agent like a week ahead of FA. No ones offering Markstrom 8 years

Yeah, not for a 4th, maybe a 5th or 6th, or maybe Chicago just makes a run at him as a UFA. Chicago is a pretty attractive place for players to play and already has a leg up because of that on 20 to 25 teams in a FA bidding war every time save for equal places like NYR, TOR, MTL and for non taxed states like FLA, TBL, DAL, VGN.
