i wouldnt say they are being ripped off, but you can look at it this way. Is Nylander the price to upgrade from Rielly's defense to Jones defense, because they are pretty similar offensively

really? Nylander is a huge upgrade over Anderson and there isnt a very big difference between Jones and Rielly imo

the Nylander-Anderson swap is a huge price to pay for a marginal upgrade from Rielly to Jones

There’s one huge difference. Rielly is a LHD and Columbus already has tons of LHD. Werenski and Rielly would be an awful pair defensively. Jones is a RHD and is more defensive minded then both Werenski and Rielly.

Value is probably fair... Columbus really has no interest in a RHD for a LHD swap. That being said Nylander>>> Anderson, though Columbus really has no need for a wing. Nylander would have to be a center. Columbus would also need to add some cap going back to Toronto to make it work.

Yeah the handedness wouldnt be ideal but in terms of just value this is heavily in CBJs favour. I would heavily consider it and it certainly wouldnt be an easy no

I agree. I think if there is a trade to be made it would have to be Nylander + Dermott for Jones or something close to that, depending on how you see Dermott's value

That’s not even close for Columbus. It’s more like replace Rielly for Muzzin. Nylander is the only reason Columbus considered this.

So the Leafs give up a top 3 player for a slight upgrade on D? Forget about team needs just player value its not worth it for the Leafs

Nylander or Rielly plus another piece makes sense not both

Jones is the best player in Columbus.... if Nylander or Marner isn’t in the trade it make no sense for Columbus. At least if it’s Nylander he can be a center. That’s why I said Rielly can be downgraded to Muzzin but Nylander has to be part of the trade or Columbus just hangs up.

So you pay Anderson3.5mwho had one goal in 26 games 3.5m.....Now that's big hit to offensive production at RW, just to exchange Jones and Reilly.
Why do folks seems too think CBJ have all the great Dmen.? Jones, Savard, Werenski. Where has it got them? And if they are great, it changes the theory that great Dmen will lead a team to success.

you make a good point, its gotten them further into the playoffs than the Leafs in the past 15 years. I changed the anderson signing, and swapped Rielly for Muzzin as suggested by @Ajp_18.

that makes the trade even worse for columbus.

anderson had a horrible year but had 63 goals the previous 3 seaons.

I think it will take a massive offer to get Jones. Meaning one of the 3 forwards I wouldn't blame you for not trading for him.

Be fair. For the past few years, not 15, we have been told that CBJ has all these superior Dman. And on some many CF posts, having superior Dmen leads to a teams success..
CBJ with Jones. Four seasons, 3 playoff appearances and one playoff round win. Year five this seasons, might not be a playoff team. Is Jones a player you really think can lead his team to success? It's not his fault, but just I don't understand this RHD obsession which supposedly guarantees team success.
