Dubas would be fired for even considering this.

No they don't. You don't trade star players like that for scraps.

A 5-10 pick in a draft has less then a 40% chance of becoming better then Marner. Also, it's Vancouvers 1st so it's in the low 20's. Furthermore, a guy like Severson could be got from a rebuilding team for a 1st, and a decent prospect. With all that taken into consideration, that mean's that Marner is valued at 3 low 1sts. (Wood + 2nd +3rd = 1st.) Are you telling me you'd trade Panarin for 3 1sts? (Yes Marner is more valuable then Panarin. He is younger, and although he isn't as good now he will certainly be in 2-3 yrs. Also a better contract)

It's not bad tbh. But something like the 10th OA + Severson (50% ret) + Bratt + Kuokkanen for Marner + Bracco + 2nd

Yikes....

That's straight up quantity>quality. I'd only trade Marner if it brings back a 1RHD, and since Severson could be gotten for a whole lot less it seems pointless.

With retention and making the pick the loser of the play in playoff pick and I think this is a good deal. Toronto would get a pick between 8-15 in a deep draft, get thier RHD they have been looking for, and a couple throw ins to round out thier depth.

The most valuable part of this is the cap space it then gives you to resign Reilly, Anderson and any other potential big contracts come from players breaking through in the future.

Its actually not a bad trade deal I would prefer instead of wood we get Bratt. But other than that not bad

Bratt can play with Matthews and Nylander. And with the extra cap space Dubas can go to a team like tampa and grab Killorn as they will probs want to move some contracts

And Severson isn't even a top RHD in the league. He's decent but...if Marner is getting traded then yeah you're right, a definite top RHD D must be coming back.

What are you thinkig? There is absolutely no chance that the Leafs will trade Marner as he is a franchise player in Toronto. Marner is going to go down as one of the all time Leafs greats and will win alot more cups than McDavid.

I actually disagree that Marner is more valuable than Panarin, even when considering age. Marner will probably never become an elite goal scorer, despite being surrounded by elite offensive talent (only 16G in 59 GP). Panarin is a top 10 player in the league right now (32-63-95). He's an elite playmaker with below average line-mates. Marner could potentially become a top 10 player, especially given his defensive abilities, but he's got a long way to go.

Obviously Severson is not a true 1RHD on a good team, but he is underrated and probably underpaid. It'd take a big return for the Devils to move him, especially considering their lack of depth on D. Would Dubas consider Severson, Bratt, and two 1st rounders, & 3rd w/ no salary retention?

No. If we were rebuilding then maybe, but we're not. Marner only get's traded if it brings back someone like Seth Jones (with evening retention of course).
