Hawks decline

interesting......

Mikheyev - 39 GP - 8G - 15A
Nylander - 65 GP - 10G - 16A

seems to me that toronto would decline this trade anyways and Mikheyev probably will only get just over 1 mill due to only having less than 40 games under his belt.

When is the last time a sign and trade happened, especially with a UFA.

What possible reason would Vancouver or any other team have to give Leafs a high pick at the draft if they were just going to sign him approx. 10 days later?

Nylander is 22 and a former top 10 pick. We just trading Jokiharju for him less than a year ago. Hawks aern't giving up on him this quickly. We still haven't scratched the surface on what he could be in the NHL. Hawks obviously hope they can do with him what they did with Strome. No reason to give up on te kid after less than a season.

They would have got him at the 2020 draft, and he still has a year left at that point. Plenty of sign and trades happen, ex. Faulk to the blues in the fall

You give up the current better player for a cheaper player with a bit more upside

won't be the magical sedin trade, no. But putting him in a comfortable situation with a veteran high end center and his nearly 40 goal pace brother and giving him a fresh start might help to unlock his potential
