Another experiment, but this with as few moves as possible. The most bare bones approach; goalie, Toffoli, ravioli...

A short roster during the early season. All the core players in tact. Boring yet serviceable.

if we were going to be this bad, we should just start the rebuild

    A top-6 and a goaltending fix sux?

Isn't this all we've been asking for all year?

having Labanc in the top 6 and acquiring another backup goalie isn't a fix

Gregor and Melker both don't belong on the 3rd line and Middleton should be a scratch at best

Agree, and honestly/no disrespect and all, but think the "full-on-100%-committed-N-Cali-rebuild-out-of-basement-gutter" starts w/ posts that are "sans" Joe + Paddy - just my 2c worth.
    Cheers...

It sounds like what you're saying is there's no way out from under this rock unless we move out Burns or Vlasic (but really, we all know it'd be Burns).

I get why you might think that, but they're cheap contracts aren't holding back any team. It's some of the others... I'll tag you in another thread to show you my point.

Aren't some of the prospects/kids being suppressed?

    not at all

If we get a CBO then that makes it worlds easier for us, but if we don't it's not impossible

We can keep Greiss and keep Labanc in the top 6 but could improve in other areas

for example, do the ol' Sorensen+a 3rd (maybe a 5th too) for Johnsson and trade Colorado's 2020 and maybe an ok prospect for Josh Anderson and hopefully get him to sign for about 1.5 million for a year or two

then sign Thornton for the league minimum and sign Rutta for slightly over a million. This gives us a decent amount of money to sign a 3rd line LW

I'm asking about the farm-hands in SJS system being suppressed (I'm not an expert by no means).

Your other threads have some good players targeted such as Killorn/Toffoli. I think Hoffman's one of the better UFAs this off-season to try for but he's a $6/7M guy!!.

I know we've been over a lot of this. Simple fact is It won't be built in a day!

A quick glance of the NHL roster for SJS on each thread and the ages (old) of the players just leaps off the page!

We need more cap space to put Anderson, Rutta, and Johnsson on the roster. The only way I see making any of that work is by taking on an LTIR contract to make space, which I am totally on board with doing, but who's gonna give up their LTIR contracts in a cap-crunch year??

It could be said that those farm team guys have been for too heavily relied upon... to our great detriment, no less! Their time will come, but we can't look to them as plugs, unless we want to kill their confidence.

I think Toffoli is a sure thing, and I would love to get Killorn if we could make it work. But as you see above in this thread, cap rapidly becomes an issue without adequate pressure relief.

As for the ages, I'm older than all those f**kers, so I refuse to consider them old.

Hoffman is a no go. His feud with Karlsson boxes that right away (sucks cause I’d take Hoffman’s production over Karlsson any day of the week)
Marleau and Thornton are seasoned vets on cheap contracts and they are an upgrade over the guys in the minors right now.
Our minors forwards are either not ready or not good enough to justify them over those two.

Agreed Johnson is a top 6 player and better than Anderson
But I think Meir takes the next step next season to top line LW Kane 2LW and labanc 2RW we need a top RW
And Johnson would be our 3LW and our 3RW should be a kid
Noesen makes a good 4RW Marleau 4 LW Joe 4C and another kid 3c

I know Meier would be top line, I would role with

    Kane-Couture-Meier
    Johnsson-Hertl-Labanc
prospect or UFA (Girgensons for example)-Thornton-Anderson
    Gregor-True-Gambrell

    I prefer
    Meir Hertl UFA/trade
    Kane Couture Labanc
    Johnson Thornton Anderson
    Kellman true Noesen

This can only happen if we get a CBO or can get a trade offer for jones, Burns or Vlassic
