Description
I do not like the idea of Ceci playing over Sandin in the playoffs, but they might switch them in and out. Ceci had a terrible year this year and if his play continues, he can be an issue for the Leafs.

I know I will get hate for predicting this, but I do think the Leafs will beat the Blue Jackets. The Jackets have no offense at all, and therefore I'm not really sure how much the Leafs D will be tested. Obviously there will be some lapses, but with the firepower the leafs will have in their lineup, it's hard to think they won't be able to outscore the Blujackets.

Even with Columbus getting players back from injury, the Leafs do as well as Rielly will be fully healthy, Muzzin, and Mikheyev, while Johnsson might be back later into the playoffs if the Leafs do make it that far.

The Leafs terrible defensive numbers this year have a lot to do with the fact that Dermott, Muzzin, Ceci, and Rielly have all been injured for a major portion of the year, and 3 of them were out at the same time for nearly a month, which leads to players like Marincin and Rosen playing at the same time. This obviously is not great for any defensive stats.

I'm not trying to make excuses for any poor play the Leafs have had in their own zone or their weak defence, but I truly believe the LEafs D is better than what the regular hockey fan thinks.

Imo Barrie plays on the 1st pair with Mo and you play them 25 mins a night. Probably going to be a Dermott and Ceci third paring that plays at most 15 mins per game. I don't mind Ceci against CBJ's bottom 6 and on the PK. Tbh, only Ceci and Muzz are constantly blocking shots on the PK. Sandin as the 7th D (Keefe might try 11F 7D vs a strong defensive team)

What became apparent to me towards the shutdown is defensively, TO was actually really good. However where they kept getting hurt was from self inflicted wounds. Their game is possession and puck movement and sometimes they held the puck too long or tried to be too fancy in the offensive zone and that led to high danger chances the other way. When they were back and defending they did an excellent job protecting the front of the net. I think the team just needed more time to learn when to keep the puck and when to just dump it deep and regroup. It had looked like they were getting better toward the shutdown and if they can continue with that trajectory, I think they'll be able to silence these trolls who say the Leafs have the worst defence in hockey. They definitely are far better than a lot of teams.

I agree. Ceci's speed and decision making with the puck on his stick has been scary this season. But that very well could have been because he was playing top-line minutes with Rielly. Although, if Ceci does play he has to have to play with a defenceman that can hold their own. Dermott can.
