Probably doesn’t make sense for Columbus since Marner makes twice as much as Jones. Probably need to take back a bad contract

Marner makes twice as much as Jones, And with PLD to resign not sure the Jackets have the cap unless a CBO is granted which i doubt one would be. Just don't see Columbus being able to afford this.

Is it easy to find a 100 point player?

Would this be a fair trade though? Blue Jackets have a lot of cap space right now. They would be able to afford him.

Seth Jones is pretty overrated defensivly if we are being honest. @mhockey91 supports this claim

3 things

1- Columbus can’t afford Marner’s contract unless Toronto takes Wennberg and Nash back. (Though Columbus is winning this trade by a mile, if cap hits didn’t apply)

2- Toronto is never and I mean NEVER going to trade Marner unless he mandates that trade him. He and Matthews are the last 2 player Toronto looks to trade.

3- can we please not bring this up again... neither team wants to make this trade and honestly neither fan base wants to make this trade. So just don’t.

No we don’t... we still have to get PLD, Anderson and Gavrikov signed. We have space, not that much space.

Also no, Toronto would lose this trade value wise.

Can you call a player who has never had a 100 point season a 100 point player?? Like calling Marner a 30 goal scorer...

He was close to that pace this past season. Also he's definitely going to have at least 1 100 point season. Can anyone say Jones is going to be a future Norris winner? He hasn't won one yet. Let just call Marner a 90 point player then. How easy are those to find? Columbus appears to have trouble finding a 70 point player right now.

That's a pretty big gamble on Kubalik, guess you would be hoping his shooting % stays at 19.1%.

no, but columbus doesn't need to trade their number one defenseman to get a high scoring forward. when you have a number 1 dman, you keep him. You don't have to trade him to get more offense, there's others routes you can take

I love how that is always the argument on there. TO will never get fair value for their stars because everything else is harder to get and yet there are only 20 players or so who contribute as much offence as these guys. The hardest thing to do in hockey is score, and yet somehow the Leafs are a terrible team and their players aren't worth much because any right handed defenceman is the hardest thing to find. What a joke.

Funny, we get similar pushback when we try to find a #2C without giving up a #1D.

I never said the value isn't fair. That is a fair value trade. My argument is WHY would Columbus have to trade their best dman, who's probably a top 10 dman in the league, for more offense? My point was, you should take other ROUTES. Sign more forwards. Draft more forwards. Trade other pieces for more offense. A team like Columbus doesn't need to trade Jones. This is just a trade that is filling more of a Toronto need than a Columbus need.
