Gotta keep in mind FLA was neck and neck with TOR most of the season. They won't wanna do a division rival any favors, overpay or look elsewhere from a FLA POV

That trade you offered seems pretty good for TOR to me. I would rather try and get it done with Dermott+Johnsson+Prospects.

Yeah him you can have. Gildon is one of our few decent d prospects. But I can’t see a trade between division foes. Not unless the panthers take a drastic turn for terrible next season.

The trade you've constructed, and the resulting team, is very well thought out. If the Panthers were in the Western Conference, this trade would get my nomination for Best Idea of the Month. However, as both @Hockey91 and @ItWasIn point out, Florida and Toronto are not merely theoretical divisional rivals but actual head-to-head playoff-contending rivals, and it's unlikely that Florida would be willing to deal on any basis that doesn't look on its surface as a Panthers-weighted exchange. Too bad.

I think there is too much stock put into not wanting to trade within division. If both teams think they are getting the better end of the deal, I see no reason why they shouldn't pull the trigger. Florida is also a very odd case, in the midst of a playoff race, Florida traded a capable NHL player to the Leafs when they needed one in exchange for an AHL player (Malgin for Marchment), I'm not sure what the logic was there. We've also seen teams get burned by taking lesser deals to avoid trading within division and then the player ends up there anyway. I think a Weegar/Leafs deal is very possible for a reasonable price.

I hope that you're right. This is a really good deal for both teams, and Toronto could even afford to sweeten it, either by adding an element or omitting one of the minor elements from Florida's side (probably Gildon, who's an excellent prospect).

Gildon is probably to high of a prospect. Someone like Cliff Pu would be fine.
Like you said I think Minor adjustments should be made to this trade

if its a 1 for 1 Dermott could probs get him. As dermott is younger and has more potential to grow into a solid Panthers defenseman. Weegar had 1 good season so he may fall off in 2021.

If we go 2 for 2 (Kerfoot Dermott) (Weegar Wallmark)

Hes a good dman but not as good as this year shows... 70% of the time he was on with Ekblad and 50% of the time Barkov and Huberdeau. Probably the reason he had a up year.

put him on his dominant side with riley and he may be even better cause sure he played with Ekblad but he was on his off side

Actually Ekblad played the left side. 100% of the time they were paired.
