Zucc is more likely than Parise for MN. My personal preference would CBO on Spurgeon (his new contract is awful).
I agree with Zucc but not Spurgeon. I like Spurgeon's game and think he adds a ton of value to the team. Zucc is a good player but a terrible fit with us. Revisit a buyout on his contract in a few years if his game declines
Spurgeon is arguably a top 3 RHD according to the advanced analytics.

Put Barrie next to Suter and he'd have about the same stats as Spurgeon.
Spurgeon is better than Suter so the Barrie comparison is wrong. But I understand your point, $7,575M when he'll be 35-36 won't be ideal but at the current moment, it's good. Anyways can't CBO a contract that starts next year so scratch that
Compliance Buy Out. Let's teams buy out a player without counting against the cap. Usually only been implemented In a situation where cap has decreased.

Spurgeon was the 3rd best d-man on the Wild last year (Brodin and Suter were much better). Brodin/Soucy was the best d-pair MN had last year, albeit a rather small sample size.

per/60 stats, ToI, usage, eye test, etc. He was a passenger/PP specialist more than a complete top-pair d-man. The PK is worse when he's on it than when he's not.

What value does Spurgeon add to the team? He's missed a lot of games over his career and the Wild are as good with him as they are without him. He's not a guy who you can pair with anyone and have a successful d-pair.
He would have added value by MN trading him before he signed that awful contract, now he's just (or will be next year) an overpayed complimentary d-man. It'll take away value from the team by costing them the re-signing Brodin.
Think there will be pitch forks and torches going after Rob Blake if Dustin Brown was CBO. I would say it would be more for Jeff Carter but he is currently injured.
