Right, so that's they signed him too right?
So they move on from Pietrangelo due to money.

Pietrangelo walks, and O'Reilly gets the C. Almost a no-brainer, especially bringing in Faulk.

WPG has the room and the need.

TOR doesn't have the cap space (Tavares was a mistake imo, but if it wasn't Tavares they would've just got better depth pieces), Winnipeg makes sense considering they just unloaded Trouba Byfuglien and Myers all in the past 3 years or so. I think he would complete Edmonton, as they don't have nearly the cap crunch TOR has. However with an expansion draft coming, teams would have to be aware of who they're protecting. That's why the upcoming free agency is so difficult to predict.

Edmonton's cap picture doesn't look much better than Toronto's. 70 mil spent already with a couple big tickets to payout this summer.

The more I think about it, WPG seems like the best fit, a flat cap may hinder a lot of teams.

I don't see how Steen could have such negative value especially if you think Bozak has positive value. Both have similar cap hits and 1 yr remaining. Both have dried up offensively but can still play reliable bottom six minutes.

If Boston paid a 1st to get rid of 1.5 yrs of Backes AND got Kase in return, couldn't the Blues to get Kempe for Steen and a 1st?

If Colorado was able to move the last year of Soderberg for Connauton and a 3rd (saving them $3.375m), I'd expect the Blues to do something similar with Bozak.

Steen doesn't really bring any value to any team imo. Nobody lines up for these 35+ $5M+ regressing forward with a lot of mileage ya know.

It's not a 35+ contract though, so the buyout isn't a full cap hit a la Marleau. It always looks like like cap is immovable and then some team decides to weaponize their cap space and guys like Phaneuf/Backes/Lehtera/Berglund/etc end up getting traded. I just provided some pretty similar examples in Backes and Soderberg.

Soderberg was only getting $4M and had almost 50 points. Steen is older, less productive and could only be moved by an enticing factor.

Sorry, I'm trying to relate Steen to Backes and then Bozak to Soderberg.

FWIW I think Bozak could get a 4th rd pick like you're showing (might have to retain down to $4m), but Steen and a 1st better bring something back. I've seen a Jets proposal where Steen and STL 1st gets back WPG 2nd. Moving down from late 20s to mid-40s to dump the salary seems realistic to me, depending on exactly where the picks fall.
