No they don't. No one wants to go there. Ask yourself when was the last time a significant UFA player signed with Jets...

When was the last time we signed a FA like Panarin? that's a flawed way to analyze their chances with their group and cap.

To be honest, I hadn't even though of him going to Winnipeg. Sure it's not a desired destination city but that team might convince him. He's a perfect team fit for what they need. As a Wild fan, I would absolutely hate it, but i can't deny how perfect he'd fit with their needs.

This would be the only reason that he wouldn't want to go to Winnipeg. He's a perfect fit for that team and would immediately spring them into contention, imo.

No, the point of that was that almost no other UFAs sign there unless it's literally the only option for them - or the offer is money wise the best.

Last UFA player with bigger than a $3M deal was Steve Mason. The one before that was Perreault...

I don't think it's a fair assessment tbh. Pietrangelo puts WPG in serious Stanley cup contention.

The fit is perfect but Winnipeg would need to really overpay to convince him to come there

the 3 best free agents from 2010-2019 were Brad Richards, Tavares, and Panarin. The Rangers signed 2/3

Would rather have the 12th overall pick then Strome.

Pietrangelo is never signing with the Jets, it's just reality, no big deal either, as good as he is its not worth a 30 year old dman soaking up $10M or more of cap space, see the Sharks and Kings for examples.

Kulikov not that long ago, i would question how many they actually go after with the draft and develop approach and attempt at keeping there own free agents. I would bet they get most of the guys they actually go after, mainly be level diamond in the rough types over any buy high ufas. There approach is probably going to lead to continuous success with there draft record, but may ultimately miss on the big price of a cup, without a gamble or two

Foot speed on strome or how deep the draft is? 3.5 to 4.5 DeMelo better than 63 million on a 30 year old defenseman

Fair assessment? Maybe not, but close to reality. The city isn't exactly tempting, he'll get better contract tax wise from US and WPG doesn't have that much money left to spend anyway.

Honestly I haven't watched enough of Strome play but I'm just wary of a few things like him not fitting with Laine and Ehlers or if he doesn't want to sign long term with the Jets, like I'm with you that they need to make a move and somewhat "go for it" but I really don't know if Strome is the guy I'd deal the 1st round pick for, that being said that pick is probably a Jet at the earliest in the 21-22 season and I think it's seriously wishful thinking to think a 19 or 20 year old, 12-15th overall rookie will step in and be a 2C instantly so they really don't have that kind of time to waste.

Really though I think if they can get some just average production from the bottom 6 the 2C issue probably really isn't an issue if Little returns and is 100%, if Little is done they really have to do something cause Copp just isn't a top 6 forward imo and who knows what happens with Roslovic, should be easier to improve the bottom 6 then acquire a 2C.

Have said it before but I think Haula is the only realistic option even if he is more of a good 3C, I also think Ehlers and Laine could turn a half point center like Tierney into a 50 point player but many would **** on the idea of a guy like him being acquired cause he's not really a 2C but if we're being realistic do we really think Tampa doesn't figure out their cap crunch or that Cirelli signs an offer sheet with the Jets? That Calgary might blow it up and trade Monahan? That in division trades of centers like Johansen are going to happen? I just don't see it, guys like Haula and Tierney are the only realistic options, I'd love Danault but he isn't leaving home. I really wish the Jets would scout the **** out of Europe and find some guy to provide some center depth.

Yup Demelo is no Pietrangelo but he's WAY cheaper and his deal doesn't interfere with raises for Laine and Pionk.

Way too low on Strome. If WPG signs Petro then they can't make the Strome move

Yeah I think the solution to the 2C problem is finding the right player to centre Ehlers and Laine, not necessarily the most talented. Like hell even Eakin was successful in his limited time with them and he was a 4th liner for the majority of the season. We need someone who can grind and retrieve pucks, have some playmaking ability (more than Copp), and isn't horrible at defense. The 2C doesn't need to be a 1B, $6M centre, hell they can be some other team's 3C, just someone who can actually find chemistry cause it's not easy to play with those two.

Hopefully Gustafson is ready to go along with samberg or heinola, and they try not to bargain hunt a couple years too late on letestu and find somebody left in the tank for competition, I’m sure there is a few guys that can fit that bill

Richards and Shattenkirk we're both busts. Even though Shattenkirk's buyout is only bad for 2020-2021 and Richards isn't against the cap. Jets have a shot at Pietrangelo imo.

Most of them didn't exactly have a chance to leave as they were RFAs by that point.

Little has played his whole career in the organisation, also Wheeler and Byfuglien was in the organisation during Atlanta times.

I'm talking about the new free agents. WPG just doesn't seem that pleasing destination for UFAs.

Sure it isn't one of the top destinations, but what you are missing is guys who have lived and played decided to sign long term. as far as the RFA's go. SCheifle, Connor, Ehlers and Morrisey all could've signed a shorter deal for more money or demanded a trade, but decided to stay long term. Buf could've hit the open market and teams would've been lining up to sign him ,but he stayed in the peg.

He had a clear role there and it goes without saying that for a player that gets drafted there it's going to be the easy option to just re-sign with the team if the money is good - and all those players have gotten pretty hefty contracts considering when they we're signed.
