Pietrangelo fits

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2020
Published: May 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming no CBOs and cap will remain 81.5 million for next 3 seasons.

Yes the trade is a cap dump and I'm open to changing the trade.
Buffalo makes sense as potential landing spots for Perreault seeing that his NTC list is only 5 teams and there is a chance he would be at least middle 6 FW there, meaning opportunities to perform.

Without trading Little away, adding a 2nd line C is not gonna happen.

Another option is to trade for Cirelli and sign Hamonic. He's not in the same world as Petro, but he would cost half as much and you plug 2 holes instead of one

How is Little??

Buffalo won't trade a prospect for a bottom 6, at best, even on their team...

I mean I am all for it if Peitrangelo sings that paper, realistically I think we have him to throw 10 Million a year for him to even look our way, and I still doubt he would sign here.

Definitely not confirmed, but read somewhere STL wanted to use OEL’s contract as the starting point for negotiations at $8.25 and he wanted more.

Too many imo.

I do like these moves but dunno if Pietrangelo goes to Winning. Ideally trading Little is the way to go but his NMC makes it tougher.

Interesting, what made you think of Winnipeg besides their need?

I think he will be lucky to get any more than 9.5.

Assuming the cap doesn't go up, teams like WPG, DAL, CGY, BUF are the only teams that can afford him without making a flurry of moves.

There is more than those, COL at the top of the list but they won’t sign him, it will be interesting to see what happens with him.

Salary rollbacks are coming imo.. the tricky part of how much Pietrangelo gets is what percentage is a rollback going to be? It has to be negotiated.

Do those teams realy have space either though?
They have their own RFA'S to sign or that need to be signed the following summer which will require cap space plus some of those teams need forward help more then on defense.

Idk, I figure Armstrong must have this figured out, can't see Pietrangelo leaving St. Louis.

Well its a great contract considering he's probably wanting $10M+ and he's one of the best dmen in the league that would no doubt massively improve the Jets but he's not transplanting his family from Missouri to Manitoba.

Also if this did somehow happen is there enough cap space to sign Laine and Pionk the following summer, those are very important RFA'S that need to be signed long term.

Doubt he stays in St. Louis they wouldn’t have made the Faulk trade if they thought they could keep him.

The Blues also walked away from Backes while he was still productive. Petro is obviously much better than Backes, but Armstrong isn’t afraid to walk away from a key player if the ask is out of his range

I don’t think trading for Cirelli makes that many holes.

We move Roslovic, Niku, B- prospect and a 1st. Roslovic would have never cracked our top 6, might have a chance to play top 6 at some point in TB due to cap crunch. Niku is a cheap #5 option, and the other prospect may have a chance to crack the roster. Plus that 1st, If its from 2020, likely is between 12-17. Roslovic gets replaced at 3RW by Appleton, Niku replaced by Samberg/Heinola.

Barrie could also work. Sure he sucks at defense but a pp with him could be terrifying on a goal scoring team like the jets

I've predicted for months now that if Pietrangelo does not resign with St. Louis (looking grimmer by the day), he will end up in Winnipeg. His family wants to stay in Canada, and of the 7 available markets, a couple CAP (haha) themselves out right off the bat. I think he'd be a good fit in Calgary as well, but Winnipeg plays a more structured game under their coach Paul Maurice, so I think Pietrangelo will do quite well there. Not sure he will anything less than $9 million AAV per season though. As a back-up or other option, I also like Chris Tanev in Winnipeg.

So you're not a fan of going after Pietrangelo and moving others to make everyone fit comfortably?

I love the idea of Pieterangelo, but it's a pipe dream IMO and would cost 9-11 AAV for max years. That's too much for too long for a 30 year old.

I think with cov19 now, it is possible he will take a little less.
