Can't Move Loui. Need Money. Zetterberg on LTIR is fine. Love Manson so at least we get something we're happy about. I think all these players are just good enough that we don't need to lose a first. Wouldn't argue if the numbers are a little off. Certainly don't think this deal is realistic because it solves so many problems for no damaging losses. Can't wait to get yelled at for being biased even though I'm aware this is in fact just wishful thinking.

Lots of moving parts for Manson. I like him but not at the cost of 3 picks & save cap space. Rather see small packages out to NJ Buffalo Detroit Montreal & Ottawa if doable.

I honestly expect people to come in here later and say "You think you'll get Manson too?" Those picks are for the cap space and I think it will cost that much. Manson makes the trade look like we're trying to get value but this is all about the space. Van is pretty desperate and I would give up 3 non firsts to do it. I would love it if your thought is the consensus but I think it's gonna be a bunch of not enoughs rather than too much.

Tbh I rather move out decent players & prospects with cap dumps. Haven’t gone into picks out mode yet. That’s plan ‘B’ as time goes on.

We've just been crushing on prospects and drafting so much the confidence is too high on these players to move them this way. I also don't know who people would target. Podkolzin, Dipietro and Hoglander aren't going anywhere. Lind, Lockwood, Gadjovich, Woo and Rathbone are good but I hope they have more value to us than other teams. Juolevi is dead to other teams so we can't do much there.

As for roster players, who else would we move? Everyone is either a stud or a bum. Can't move Loui. Beagle isn't worth 3 million but I'd have his faceoffs over paying to remove him (especially if we remove Sutter) Ferland is a health risk at best and no one else is under contract who we'd move.

I keep circling back to Stecher Tryamkin & Baertschi. The right team at the right time is the objective. The others are difficult & I agree picks out to move them but it can wait a year if needed. The e-draft might help us more than hurt us. Focus imo is resign Marky & Toffoli. Tanev walks if not a home town discount which won’t happen probably.

So you give Wings a 30 year old who has 7 goals this year, an over played winger in Suter and a 2022 2nd pick for Zetterberg and Veleno. Not sure why Wings make this deal as they take on cap and give up a former 1st who could be future #2 center. Wings can easily take care of Zetterberg deal on LTIR and keep Veleno. Zetterberg's real dollar is is 1 million, even though his cap hit is over 5 million, which can be put on LTIR and not hurt a team who has a ton of cap space. There is nothing in this deal that makes Wings want to trade Veleno.

Wow this is real bad for Detroit. If I offered Helm and Glendening for Podkolzin would you accept?

With Zetterberg's contract in it's final year there no reason to move it.

Sven doesn't help us save money. He's only worth 1 mil. If we move Troy we'd had to replace him. The other guy is like 25 and looks bad. There's no value there for anyone else and we save 3 mil, My players pitched saves over 9 mil and we really only need to replace one player.

I looked at Veleno's numbers and assumed everyone thought he was a garbage bust. He wasn't supposed to be a point of contention. He was -25 in the AHL so I thought that would be easy. You can swap him with some other bad player if you think differently. I'm aware Zetterberg doesn't matter much either it's just clear that Det wont have their roster filled with real talent in the next little while so this was a free patch up with people slightly better than what they have while they're being bribed to take contracts.

I really shouldn't assume I understand Detroit fans. My bad. Veleno is not good, give us Brian Lashoff instead or something. They're the same player to me. What Det is giving up is just for show.

WOW! REALLY? Maybe you should a read a scouting report. Veleno was on Team Canada in the latest WJCs and he had 6 points in 6 games.

It was his 1st year of pro hockey. And 2nd of all he had a bad 1st half and was becoming a better defensive forward in the 2nd half before the shutdown.

As far as scouting he is considered top 3 in Wings organization ahead of Rasmussen and behind Zadina and Sieder. Most pundits have him picked in tip 100 of all prospects in the NHL. So you step calling him a bust. What the hell are Roussel and Sutter?

Before you start telling what I think make sure you know what you are talking about. Wings are not eating cap space for nothing. Simple stupid.

I looked at numbers. You guys complained, I switched to another bad player. Thanks for the 6 game sample size though. huge help. It can't be the crux of the discussion in a like 11 piece deal to triple down on a guy I already said swap out.

A 2 and a 4 are fine to eat some money considering you need to fill a roster with Nhl players through a rebuild. They're not great but they net you picks instead of costing. If you don't think a 2 and a 4 are enough than you can say that instead of being a douchebag. Your choice.

It is not the picks but the trading of Veleno. Cap space next season will be a premium, espicially if cap does not go up. I just find it funny people think that other teams will eat bad contracts nd then give up valuable pieces to do so. You are asking the Wings to eat over 7 million in cap. Yes I understand they take on Zetterberg, but that does not count as that cap will be put on LTIR. So Wings gain nothing but 7 million in cap and give up a former 1st round pick that is 20 years old and get nothing of valuable in return.

@reelkena at least you are staying true to your GM description if you think Veleno is bad. QMJHL first exceptional player, crazy amount of points in the juniors, and great World Juniors run. What more do you want from a player? He went 1st round for a reason and when he was picked at 30th overall EVERYONE said wow Red Wings got a steal!

Listen. Relax. As I said like 5 times. I looked at his stats comparable to teammates. I didn't recheck his draft description because he's already 20 and two years is a long time. His stats were garbage. People told me I was wrong. Did I say omg u fan boys you're all mouth breathers he's clearly garbage? Or did I say, whatever it doesn't matter swap him out. Pretty sure I said swap him out. So how bout you stop being a suckass for Det mr SteveY19 and pay more attention.

Is it really a fire sale if you're only trading away depth pieces and mid-round picks? Also, I'm not sure why Detroit would ever do this deal.

Agree. It was unreasonable. The only reason they would do it (after the Veleno swap out) would be two free picks to eat money for a year. But it's certainly not an amazing deal of Det.

-25 on a team where the average is -5 (roughly)

I see a guy 5 times worse on plus minus than his teammates and I know only Detroit fans are gonna defend him.

Comparing him to Lashoff is too far but comparing Veleno to Veleno's hype is almost as unreasonable.

Yes I know how to evaluate + - properly even if no one else outside of real teams does so don't give me the + - is a bs stat crap. It's mostly bs when you compare other teams players but it's useful in team.
