Don’t do that to Alexis. He deserves to be on a half decent franchise.

imo Eichel is better than Matthews and players like that unfortunately will cost way more.. they are proven assets and the #1 pick could just be a Nolan Patrick/ Hughes. always take proven assets over risks imo

If it's the 1st overall pick, probably enough on its own. However, there is the cap situation it might be tough to take on 10mil. Feasible, but at the same time, not cost effective and Yzerman is under no pressure to win right now.

Exactly! I would't trade Marner for Lafreniere tbh. New fans don't understand that picks don't always turn out.

BUT Eichel is NOT better then Matthews

yeah I had this same argument with sabre fans.... (everyone on this site thinks Kuzy isn't good for some reason) but the said they wouldn't trade there 2020 1st for Kuzy. I always take the proven asset over the risk. unless the player is a McDavid type talent im keeping my 70-80 point player. no reason to risk trading a 1c for a Poolparty

Hell no Detroit's not an Eichel away from competing, Lafreniere for Eichel makes zero sense from Detroit's perspective.

New fans lol, I've been a fan longer then you and there is something called draft pick currency, nobody knows if a prospect will pan out or not.but there is a value for each draft pick and first overall is mega cache. Not saying it's enough or isn't, but saying it's not close means you don't know jack about the nhl or drafts. Laf is compared to Patrick Kane, so Patrick Kane in his prime isn't worth eichel?

imo Eichel is better then Kane ever was. Also that's best case scenario.

I do not agree with this statement that eichel is better then Kane ever was.

Detroit definitely adds. Top 5 center for a question mark. I could see the Sabres doing it to hit reset with Dahlin still coming up but not sure why Detroit does it.

Math

S10M super talent already in prime (though centre needed)

Vs

$975,000 per yr super talent & only 18 years old..

Wings take Lafreniere all day ..everyday..

Unless Lafreniere has a serious injury that ruins his development, there's pretty much no chance he becomes anything less than the best winger in hockey. Ability wise, he's as complete as it gets. Decent skating, decent shot, great hands, outstanding vision, high hockey sense, excellent defensive play, plays physical, goes to the dirty area, and is relentless at forechecking and retrieving the puck.

If Marner can put up 95 points on a line with JT or Matthews, Alexis is capable of getting at least 110.

Too many people don't know enough about this year's first overall pick. He put up better numbers than MacKinnon's last year in junior on a much weaker team. No reason to think his ceiling is not equivalent to Matthews & Eichel.

Yeah people said the same thing about Kk and laine. Best winger in hockey? Oh man. ... not enough people know about the number one pick? Literally last year I heard how Hughes and KK would score 80 points. Lmfao I’ll believe it when i see it. Guys like ovechkin dont exists anymore. Players scoring 100 points rookie year. Dude might get 60? That’s still good but 4 players scored 100 points last year? I hate when people make comments like this. Not that it’s impossible but it’s just unlikely. He could be the next Eichel but he could also be the next Yak. I’ll take the sure thing like I said before.
