As the projected No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, the attention is something Lafreniere will have to get used to. Even Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews, the No.1 pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, has taken notice.

"Seventy points in 30 games right? That's not too bad," Matthews said of Lafreniere. "I've seen some highlights. He's a good player."

Matthews isn't far off on the numbers. Lafreniere, an 18-year old forward, has 70 points (23 goals, 47 assists) in 32 games with Rimouski to lead the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Lafreniere had 80 points in 60 games as a 16 year old compared to MacKinnon's 78 in 58 as a 16 year old (1.33p/g compared to 1.34 p/g), followed by Lafrienere having 105 points in 61 games as a 17 compared to MacKinnon's 75 points in 44 games as a 17 (1.72 p/g compared to 1.70 p/g).

He currently sits a mile ahead of the QMJHL scoring pack and is tied for the CHL lead with 99 points in 44 contests. He’s been suspended twice this year for questionable plays. Recorded a career-high seven points in a game the other night. Won a gold medal and was named the tournament MVP at the WJC. So not even can he score he plays more physical than Matthews.

Quinton Byfield, about 8 monts younger than Lafrenière and putting similar numbers in a lower scoring league.

although you cant develop an opinion on your own and you copied and pasted an article, what i get from this is that because laf tore up jr hockey he is better than matthews? this is funny, lafs going to be a stud but how you can say him byfield and stutzle are better or will be better before even stepping on the ice is funny and stupid,
