Eichel is sick of losing

Created by: CD282
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 28, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
... but he didn't ask for a trade nor will he, IMO. This team has some really good pieces and will contend for a long time if developed properly, but I don't think there's a massive trade / signing in the team's near future. Steady as she goes... the losing is almost over.

The draft was done using Corey Pronman's list here: https://theathletic.com/1769140/2020/05/27/pronmans-2020-nhl-draft-board-top-122-prospects/

7. Rossi
33. Guhle
38. Neighbours
74. Robins

Personally I think this is the year Buffalo gets a break via the lottery, but I'm going to leave the pick at 7OA. In any case, if they can land Rossi at 7 I don't think they'll be disappointed as I think he's a top-5 talent and more NHL-ready than some of the guys listed ahead of him.

The Ristolainen trade was copied from an AGM by littlejerryseinfeld.

The other trades are using cap space to get some B prospects for taking useful but overpaid veterans with 1 year left on their deals. One thing the Sabres lack IMO is a good veteran presence in the locker room. Not sure how the trades would work out exactly but this is the general framework.

I don't follow the Sabres closely so if I've screwed up the lines / pairings or missed an obvious RFA signing, let me know.

Rossi won’t be in the NHL next year and there’s no chance the Blues do that.

laugh laugh Then Eichel shouldn't have committed 8 years to Buffalo if he's sick of losing. Did he ever think that team was going anywhere anyways.

If they draft another defenseman in the first 2 rounds Eichel may ask for a trade though

Yeah whens the last time Buffalo went on a 25 year run? Won 4 cups and 2 other cup finals last. Yeah i can't remember either because it's never happened before.

For teams Red Wings fans can talk **** to, Buffalo actually might be one of them. They have had more success in the last 9 years or so after all.

The trade that ensures more seasons of losing. The Sabres would have been better off letting ROR take his bonus and either retire or play in another league...

Ok but in the present you didn't have a very good season either. They still have a better result than Buffalo with the likely 1st pick rather than 7th.

He has nothing more to prove in the OHL.

there’s no chance the Blues do that.

Depends on how much they want to keep their winning team together. They're likely over the cap even without re-signing Pietrangelo or Bouwmeester. If they buyout Steen and dump Allan for picks they still don't have enough space for Pietrangelo.

"It's one thing to be in the tight games. It's another thing to win them," Eichel said, noting the Sabres could benefit from additional veteran depth and toughness.

Looks like I was right.

Just because he has nothing left to prove doesn’t mean he’s NHL ready. Just because someone plays really well in junior doesn’t mean you can just immediately slit them into the 2nd line. People with nothing to prove in junior don’t even produce at the AHL level sometimes.

Yeah there’s no way the Blues are signing Pietrangelo. And they don’t need the cap space that bad, so they’re not trading one of their best prospects to move out their 3rd line centre.

AHL isn't an option, so that's a moot point. From viewings in the OHL I think Rossi would be a better 2C than anyone else on the roster, especially since he'll be getting a really long offseason this summer/ fall to prepare.

Maybe. What I wrote was that the trade was a framework idea anyhow, don't get too hung up on the detail.
