Hertl is worth a top 10-15 pick (top 15 because its a deep draft) but he's not worth 1 of Lafreniere/Byfield/Stutzle/Drysdale.

Great, hes worth more than 10-15 so we reject. If the pick was 4 or 5? Maybe we consider. I was joking about the lottery, but no Buffalos pick doesnt do it for us where it is currently.

I know we have a lot of disagreements about these Hertl for Buffalo's 2020 1st + but i'll just try to show you my point of view
Just cause I'm not sure all the scenario's for where Buffalo can pick and the chances for each other then the 6.5% chance they win, I'll just use them picking 7th because that's most likely

San Jose should definitely go for a forward at 7th overall, and a player we could pick at 7th overall (assuming he's still available) is Alexander Holtz who's a great goal scorer and a RW which is what we currently need most

I think if all goes well Holtz could be a future point per game player which is pretty much what Hertl is. Hertl is on a great contract for 2 more seasons, but after that he becomes a UFA and he is 26 years old. We also get a possible future 2nd pair defenseman and a top 9 forward on a decent contract.

Yes, if the pick falls a few spots this trade isn't great, but even if it falls one or two spots I still think it's a good trade for us. Hey, maybe it even goes up and we could get a different Swede like Raymond

If a top-10 pick develops into a player like Hertl, you are very happy. True, it is a deep draft, but given that prospects flame out all the time, and that Hertl is good now as opposed to in 2-5 years, this is a bad trade for the Sharks. Lafreniere, from what I hear, has exceptional talent and is easily worth more than Hertl, but it gets closer as you move down the list. I might take Byfield over Hertl, but Stutzle, Askarov, Drysdale? I don't know...
